     Woolf Saber was born circa 1819 at Walsum, Prussia; and he is believed to be 'of Sydney.^2,1' He married Caroline Moss in 1848 at Lancashire, England; and their marriage was registered in the December quarter 1848 at Liverpool Registration district.^3,1,4 Woolf Saber Bev Giveen writes 'Woolf and Caroline are believed to have had the following children: Moss born 1850, Emanuel born 1852, 'with Woolf and Caroline [when they] came to Australia on the maiden voyage of SS Great Britain in 1852 (SS Great Britain is being restored at Bristol, England) and a celebration of the maiden voyage of 150 years was here in Sydney and Melbourne. My sister and I had the 4 Sabers names put on the Welcome Wall in Sydney near the Maritime Museum'. Jane born 1853, Joshua (Joseph) born 1854, Barnett (Barnard) born 1856, Louis born 1857, Solomon born 1859, Nathaniel born 1861, Katherine born 1863 and Henry.' Solomon S Saber's death was recorded in1860 at Sydney.^5,6

He Bev Giveen writes 'Woolf had a big store in Sydney "W. Saber & Sons" and sold lots of different items. He started off selling, I believe, perfume and watches around Wynyard in George St. The family lived in the same premises or very close by to their shop. He did import a lot of items from Liverpool from his brother in law Joseph Sewill. Joseph was known for his watches and chronometers', one of which was sold recently.⁷'

He died before 30 August 1882 at London, England; and his death was recorded at Kensington Registration district in the September quarter 1882, at age 63.^10,11 He was buried on 30 August 1882; and an announcement in The Times of Tuesday 29 August 1882 reads: 'The funeral of the late Mr Woolf Saber will take place on Wednesday afternoon, at 3 o'clock'.¹²

She was executrix to her husband and the 1959 National Probate Calendar reads that he was of '185 Showell Green Lane Birmingham 11' and Administration was granted at Birmingham 'to Rosa Mary Cohen widow' on 11 June 1959.¹⁶ She and Freda Cohen appeared in a notice in The Times, from the High Court of Justice, Queens Bench Division, as follows: 'Marriage Ban Continued. It was stated on behalf of Mrs Rosa May Cohen of Basing Hill, Golders Green, NW, that Mr Justice Wynn Parry in chambers today continued until further order the order he granted last Thursday making her daughter, Freda Cohen, aged 18, a ward of court, restraining her from marrying James Fraher of Gladstone Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham, and also restraining her and James Fraher from having any communication or interview with each other; and further restraining him from communicating by letter, telephone or message with her'. on 2 December 1959.²⁰ Rosa May Jones and Freda Cohen appeared in a notice in The Times, from the High Court of Justice, Queens Bench Division, as follows: 'Ward Committed in Chambers. Mr Justice Wynn Parry, sitting in chambers, it has been stated, committed to prison Freda Cohen, aged 18, ward of court, and James Fraher of Gladstone Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. On November 26 1959, on the application of her mother, Rosa May Cohen of Basing Hill, Golders Green, NW. his Lordship had made Freda Cohen a ward of court and made orders restraining her from marrying Fraher and restraining them from communicating or having interview with each other (The Times, November 27); these orders were continued on December 1 (The Times, December 2). His Lordship to-day gave authority, it was further stated, to publish the fact that he had committed the ward and Fraher to prison.' on 19 December 1959.²¹ Rosa May Jones and Freda Cohen appeared in a notice in The Times, from the High Court of Justice, Queens Bench Division, as follows: 'Before Mr Justice Cross. Release of Ward In Re Cohen. Mr Settle then said he had a motion which affected the liberty of the subject. His application was for the discharge from custody of a ward of court who had been committed to prison by Mr Justice Wynn Parry (The Times December 19, 1959). The ward, Miss Freda Cohen, had been in custody since December 18, 1959; and she asked that his Lordship should accept her apologies for her earlier contempt. His release was agreed to coming from the Official Solicitor, without opposition from Miss Cohen's mother, but with warnings that if he broke the order again he would not be treated so leniently and was reminded that the order also applied to communication with Miss Cohen through a third party.²³'

Mr Justice Wynn Parry, sitting in chambers, it has been stated, committed to prison Freda Cohen, aged 18, ward of court, and James Fraher of Gladstone Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham. On November 26 1959, on the application of her mother, Rosa May Cohen of Basing Hill, Golders Green, NW. his Lordship had made Freda Cohen a ward of court and made orders restraining her from marrying Fraher and restraining them from communicating or having interview with each other (The Times, November 27); these orders were continued on December 1 (The Times, December 2). His Lordship to-day gave authority, it was further stated, to publish the fact that he had committed the ward and Fraher to prison.' on 19 December 1959.⁵ Freda Cohen and Rosa May Jones appeared in a notice in The Times, from the High Court of Justice, Queens Bench Division, as follows: 'Before Mr Justice Cross. Release of Ward In Re Cohen. Mr Settle then said he had a motion which affected the liberty of the subject. His application was for the discharge from custody of a ward of court who had been committed to prison by Mr Justice Wynn Parry (The Times December 19, 1959). The ward, Miss Freda Cohen, had been in custody since December 18, 1959; and she asked that his Lordship should accept her apologies for her earlier contempt. She was a girl of 19 and was in breach of an order, made in proceedings through her mother, restraining her from seeing a certain gentleman who was also in custody. Mr John Mills, for the ward's mother, Mrs Rosa May Cohen, of Basing Hill, Golders Green, NW., said: "My client is not minded to oppose the release if your Lordship thinks fit to grant it. My instructions are not to ask for costs in the particular circumstances of this case". His Lordship - If that is how the mother feels I will order the girl's release from custody'. on 13 January 1960.⁶ Freda Cohen and Rosa May Jones appeared in a notice on 16 January 1960 in The Times, from the High Court of Justice, Chancery Division, as follows: 'Contemptor Released In Re Cohen. Before Mr Justice Cross...Mr Frehar had disobeyed that order most flagrantly...Mr Frehar now came and asked to be released and he told the Court how foolish he had been and regretted what he had done...' His release was agreed to coming from the Official Solicitor, without opposition from Miss Cohen's mother, but with warnings that if he broke the order again he would not be treated so leniently and was reminded that the order also applied to communication with Miss Cohen through a third party.⁷'

     Leslie Hubert Maurice Goldstein was born on 20 August 1903 at London, England; and his birth was registered in the September quarter 1903 at Hackney Registration district.^5,4 He was the son of Philip Goldstein and Celia Shonman.² Leslie Hubert Maurice Goldstein appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 139 Wilberforce Road, Finsbury Park, London, England, as Leslie Goldstein, Son, age 7, birthplace London, and he was at School.⁶ He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Stoke Newington, London, England, as born at Hornsey, London, in 1903.⁷ On 18 August 1921 his name was legally changed to Leslie Hubert Maurice Goring.^2,8 He married Marjorie Jane Jones, daughter of Henry Arthur Jones F.S.I. and Katherine Saber, in 1927 at London, England; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1927 at Hampstead Registration district.^1,2

Leslie Hubert Maurice Goldstein lived between 1929 and 1940 at 155 Gladstone Park Gardens, Willesden, Middlesex, England.⁹ He and Marjorie Jane Jones lived on 29 September 1939 at Ossulton Way, Finchley, London, England; where they were on the 1939 Register, when his was recorded as Secretary.¹⁰ Leslie Hubert Maurice Goldstein was executor in the following notice in The London Gazette Issue 39502 published on the 28 March 1952 concerning his Wife's Uncle:

     'Name of Deceased (Surname first): JONES, Edmund Benjamin, F.R.C.S. Address, description and date of death of Deceased: 41, Shoot-up-Hill, London, N.W.2, Retired Medical Practitioner. 6th March, 1952. Names, addresses and descriptions of Persons to whom notices of claims are to be given and names, in parentheses, of Personal Representatives: Boxall and Boxall, 22, Chancery Lane, London, W.C.2, Solicitors. (Esther Jones, Rosa May Cohen and Leslie Hubert Maurice Goring.) Date before which notices of claims to be given: 30th May, 1952.³'

He died on 17 January 1992 at London, England, at age 88; and he was given as an Ophthalmic Optician (Retired) of 74 Capel Gardens, Pinner, Middlesex. His death was recorded in January 1992 at Hillingdon Registration district, Greater London.⁵ His estate was probated on 8 July 1992; and a notice was printed in The London Gazette Issue 52985 regarding claims on his estate and his Personal Representatives were Stuart Michael Goring and Marion Joyce Goring.¹¹

     Philip Goldstein was born in 1872 at London, England; and his birth as Philip Goldstein was recorded at Whitechapel Registration district in the March quarter 1872.^3,4 He married Celia Shonman in 1901 at London, England; and their marriage was registered in the March quarter 1901 at Hackney Registration district.^5,6 Philip Goldstein appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 10 Gloucester Park, Stoke Newington, London, England, as Son-in-law of Soloman J Shonman, age 29, birthplace City of London, and he was an Electro Plate Works Manager.³ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 139 Wilberforce Road, Finsbury Park, London, England, as Philip Goldstein, Head, married, age 39, birthplace London, and he was a Manufacturing Electroplater. The household also contained his Wife, three Sons and one Daughter.⁷ On 24 August 1921 his name was legally changed to Goring and the following notice was published in 'The London Gazette' Issue 32437:

     'NOTICE is hereby given, that PHILIP GORING, of 155/159, Rosebery-avenue, Clerkenwell, and 190, Lordship-road, Stoke Newington, London, N., lately called Philip Goldstein, has assumed and intends henceforth upon all occasions and at all times to sign and use and to be called and known by the name of Philip Goring in lieu of and in substitution for his former names of Philip Goldstein; and that such intended change of name is formally declared and evidenced by a deed poll under his hand and seal, dated the 17th day of August, 1921, duly executed and attested and enrolled in the Central Office of the Supreme Court of Judicature, on the 24th day of August, 1921.—Dated this 24th day of August, KENNETH BROWN, BAKER, BAKER, Lennox House, Norfolk-street, Strand, W.C.2, Solicitors for the said Philip Goring. (063).¹'

He was The following notice appeared in The London Gazette Issue 33036 published on the 7 April 1925:

     'In the Matter of the BARREL POLISHING & PLATING WORKS Limited. AT an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Members of the said Company, duly convened, and held at No. 5, Newcastle-place, Clerkenwell Green, London, E.G. 1, on the 16th day of March, 1925, the following Special Resolution was duly passed; and at a subsequent Extraordinary General Meeting of the Members of the said Company, also duly convened and held at the same place, on the 31st day of March, 1925, the following Special Resolution was duly confirmed: — Resolved. He died on 24 January 1961 at London, England; and his place of residence or death was 2 Devonshire Street, London, W1. His death was recorded at Islington Registration district in the March quarter 1961.^9,10 He was buried on 26 January 1961 at Hoop Lane Cemetery, Golders Green, London, England; at age 89.⁹

      Celia Shonman also went by the name of Cissie.³ She was born on 2 November 1877 at London, England; and her parents were Soloman J. Shonman, a Fur Merchant, and Bessie Shonman. A 'Shonman, Soloman Joseph, from Russia. Resident in London' was issued Naturalisation Certificate 13082 on 9 December 1902.^4,5,6 As of 1901, her married name was Goldstein.² She married Philip Goldstein in 1901 at London, England; and their marriage was registered in the March quarter 1901 at Hackney Registration district.^1,2 Celia Shonman appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 10 Gloucester Road, Stoke Newington, London, England, as Wife of Philip Goldstein, age 22, birthplace Victoria Park, London.⁴ She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 139 Wilberforce Road, Finsbury Park, London, England, as Celia Goldstein, Wife, age 32, birthplace London, she had been married 10 years and she had 4 children born alive and still living.⁷ As of 26 August 1921, her married name was Goring.^1,8 She died on 18 April 1972 at London, England, at age 94; and her death was recorded at Hampstead Registration district in the June quarter 1972.^3,5 She was buried on 19 April 1972 at Hoop Lane Cemetery, Golders Green, London, England; as age 94, next to her husband.³

     Stanley Howard Emanuel Goldstein was born in 1902 at England; and his birth was recorded at Edmonton Registration district in the June quarter 1902.¹ He was the son of Philip Goldstein and Celia Shonman.¹ Stanley Howard Emanuel Goldstein appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 139 Wilberforce Road, Finsbury Park, Middlesex, England, as Stanley Goldstein, Son, age 8, birthplace London, and he was at school.² He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Stoke Newington, London, England, as born at Hornsey, London, in 1902.³ On 24 August 1921 his name was legally changed to Goring.^4,5 He married Ina Caroline Jones, daughter of Henry Arthur Jones F.S.I. and Katherine Saber, in 1932 at London, England; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1932 at Hampstead Registration district.^6,7 Stanley Howard Emanuel Goldstein lived between 1933 and 1946 at 29 Ossulton Way, Barnet, London, England; and his telephone number was SPEedwell 4985.⁸ He and Ina Caroline Jones lived between 1934 and 1939 at 29 Ossulton Way, Finchley, London, England; where they were on the London Electoral Register and the 1939 Register, when his occupation was Surveyor and Estate Agent.^9,10 Stanley Howard Emanuel Goldstein died on 23 March 1944 at Stanbroughs Emergency Hospital, Watford, Hertfordshire, England; and his death was recorded at Watford Registration district in the March quarter 1944.^11,12 His estate was probated on 13 July 1944; and the 1944 National Probate Calendar records he was 'of 29 Ossulton-Way Finchley' and Administration was granted at Llandudno 'to Ina Caroline Goring widow.¹³'

     Baby Jones was born circa 1893 at United States of America.^1,2 He was the son of Joel Benjamin Jones and Gussie Deutsch.¹ Baby Jones died in 1894 at United States of America; and his Mother is recorded as mother to two children, one of whom is living in 1900 and one has died.^1,2 He was buried; and may have been called David Leslie Jones, died 4 months and buried in California.³

     Margaret Florence Bullen was born in 1892 at Shalford, Surrey, England; and her birth was recorded at Hambledon record office in the March quarter 1892.^1,2 She was the daughter of Frederick Bullen and Fanny Worsfold.¹ Margaret Florence Bullen appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Shalford, Surrey, England, as Daughter, age 9, birthplace Shalford, Surrey.¹

     George Denyer was born circa 1867 at Sydenham, Kent, England.² He married Kate Ellen Bullen, daughter of Frederick Bullen and Fanny Worsfold, on 18 April 1895 at St Mary The Virgin, Shalford, Surrey, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hambledon record office in the June quarter 1895.^1,3 George Denyer appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Godalming, Surrey, England, as Head, married, age 34, birthplace Sydenham, Kent.² He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 84 Albion Street, Southwick, Sussex, England, as head, age 44, married, birthplace Penge, Kent, England.⁴

Lillers is a small town about 15 kilometres west-north-west of Bethune and the Communal Cemetery and Extension lie to the north of the town. From the Mairie in the centre of the town, head north on the D182, after 500 metres turn right onto Rue St Venant. The cemetery is a further 200 metres on the left hand side.

'Within the Communal Cemetery the Commonwealth war graves are situated on the right hand side half way up the cemetery central path, and the Extension is at the far right end of the Communal Cemetery. Both cemeteries are signposted.

'Historical Information
Lillers was used for billets and headquarter offices from the autumn of 1914 to April 1918. At that time it was a hospital centre with the 6th, 9th, 18th, 32nd, 49th and 58th Casualty Clearing Stations in the town at one time or another. These units buried their dead on the right of the central path of the communal cemetery, working back from Plot I. In April 1918, the Germans advanced as far as Robecq; Lillers came under shell-fire, and the units holding this front continued to bury beyond the cemetery boundary, in the extension.

'The COMMUNAL CEMETERY contains 894 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, 67 of which are unidentified. There are also 15 German graves in the Commonwealth plots.

'The EXTENSION contains 71 Commonwealth burials of the First World War, six of them unidentified.⁵'

     Alfred Ernest Erskine Jones was born in 1865 at Chelmsford, Essex, England; and his birth was recorded at Chelmsford Registration district in the March quarter 1865.^3,2 He was the son of Walter Barron Jones and Mary Elizabeth Bell.¹ Alfred Ernest Erskine Jones appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at New London Road, Chelmsford, Essex, England, as Son, age 6, birthplace Chelmsford, Essex, and he was a Scholar.⁴ He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 38 Western Terrace, New London Road, Chelmsford, Essex, England, as Son, age 16, birthplace Chelmsford, Essex, and he was a Scholar.³ As of before 28 September 1881, Alfred Ernest Erskine Jones was also known as Alfred Ernest Barron Jones.⁵ He was listed as a Afred Ernest Barron Jones, Medical Student with the Preliminary Examination in Arts as a 'Mem.       Dora Elizabeth Jones was also known as Elizabeth Dora Jones.³ Her married name was Allworth.⁴ She was born on 26 February 1877 at Chelmsford, Essex, England; and it is thought her birth was registered as Elizabeth Dora Jones in the June quarter 1877 at Chelmsford Registration district.^5,6,7 She was the daughter of Walter Barron Jones and Mary Elizabeth Bell.² Dora Elizabeth Jones appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 38 Western Terrace, New London Road, Chelmsford, Essex, England, as Daughter, age 4, birthplace Chelmsford, Essex.⁵ She appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 38 New London Road, East Side, Chelmsford, Essex, England, as Daughter, age 14, birthplace Chelmsford, Essex, and she was a Scholar.⁸ She was baptized on 1 April 1893 at Chelmsford, Essex, England; on the same day as her brother Arnold Stephen Joshua Neville Jones.⁹ She appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 26 New London Road, Chelmsford, Essex, England, as Daughter, age 23, single, birthplace Chelmsford, Essex.¹⁰ She appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at Rosendale, 9 Cottage Place, Chelmsford, Essex, England, as Daughter, age 27, birthplace Chelmsford, Essex.¹¹ She married Frank Parnell Allworth on 2 December 1912 at Parish Church, St Marylebone, London, England; and their marriage was recorded in the December quarter 1912 at Marylebone Registration district. The marriages took place after Banns had been read. He was a 41 year old bachelor, L.D.S. , R.C.S., England, of 75 Wimpole Street and she was a 27 year old spinster of Rosendale, Chelmsford.^1,12,13 Dora Elizabeth Jones and Frank Parnell Allworth lived between 1918 and 1922 at Hazelwood, Sandcross Lane, Reigate, Surrey, England; where they appeared on the Electoral Register.¹⁴ Dora Elizabeth Jones was executrix to her husband and The 1922 National Probate Calendar reads:

She lived on 29 September 1939 at 68 Gordon Mansions, Torrington Place, St Pancras, London, England; where she was on the 1939 Register as Dora Allworth, widowed, age 50. Her brother Arnold Jones, a Cook and a Parlourmaid completed the household.⁷ She was was thought to have been included in the following notice which appeared in 'The London Gazette Issue 41061 published on the 3 May 1957':

He was executor for his Mother and the 1916 National Probate Calendar records 'Jones Mary Elisabeth' was 'of Rosendale Chelmsford widow' and Probate was granted at London on 29 April 1916 'to Arnold Jones esquire and Kate Helen Jones spinster'.³

He lived on 29 September 1939 at 68 Gordon Mansions, Torrington Place, St Pancras, London, England; where he was on the 1939 Register as Arnold Jones, single, age 60.       Frank Edmund Braham was also known as Edmund Francis Braham.⁴ Frank Edmund Braham was also known as Francis Edmond Braham.^1,5,6 He was born on 7 February 1848 at London, England; and he was the son of Lewis Henry and Sophia Braham.^7,1,6 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 43 Sidney Road, Lambeth, London, England, as Lodger, age 23, birthplace London, Middlesex, and he was a Civil Engineer.⁸ He married Ann Jones, daughter of Alexander Jones and Jane Jones, in 1884 at Sussex, England; and their marriage was recorded in the March quarter 1884 at Brighton Registration district.^9,10 Frank Edmund Braham was baptized on 17 July 1888 at St Pancras Old Church, Camden, London, England; as an adult and recorded as 'Frank Braham (known as Francis Edmund)' with his sister Sara.^6,11 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 56 Holland Park, Kensington, London, England, as Francis E Braham, Husband, age 42, birthplace London, W.C., and he was Living on his own means.¹
