     Morris Benjamin Van Praagh was born on 25 March 1809 at Groningen, Netherlands.3,2,4,5,6 He was the son of Benjamin Moses Van Praagh and Bartje Joseph Speyer.3 Morris Benjamin Van Praagh married Sarah Boam, daughter of Jacob Boam, on 27 June 1832; and the Hambro Synagogue Marriage Register provides the following information:

     'Groom Van Praagh, Moses, Hebrew Moshe, Address: Specks Buildings, Brick Lane, Spitalfields, Groom's Father Hebrew Abraham Moshe Benjamin. Bride's Father Hebrew Name Jacob.3,2,7,8'

Morris Benjamin Van Praagh and Sarah Boam had 12 children.9 Morris Benjamin Van Praagh was listed in 'Post Office London Directory, 1841. [Part 1: Street, Commercial, & Trades Directories)' as:

     'Great Prescot street...57 Van Praagh Morris, who. jeweller.10'

He was President of Hambro Synagogue.3 He was naturalized on 2 November 1853; and The National Archives contain the following documents:

     'Naturalisation Papers: Van Praagh, Morris, from Holland. Certificate 1674 issued 2 November 1853.4'

He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 18 Warwick Crescent, Paddington, London, England, as Head, married, age 50, birthplace 'Holland (Naturalized)', and he was a Diamond Merchant.12 He was an original seatholder at Bayswater Synagogue, Westminster, London, living at 18 Warwick Cresent, W, along with Joseph Van Praagh.13 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 18 Warwick Crescent, Paddington, London, England, as Head, married, age 60, birthplace 'Holland Naturalised', and he was a 'Gentleman.14' He died on 16 December 1871 at 18 Warwick Crescent, Paddington, London, England, at age 62; and his death was registered in the December quarter 1871 at Kensington Registration district, 'in the 63rd year of his age.2,15,16' He was buried at Lauriston Road Jewish Cemetery, Hackney, London, England.17 He was the subject of an obituary was published as a press announcement:

'Our obituary of last week contained a notice of death of Morris Van Praagh. Mr Van Praagh was during a long period a warden of Hambro' Synagogue, and received recently a handsome testimonial from its members in recognition of his zeal and important services he had rendered. Mr Van Praagh became, from its foundation, a member of Portland Street Synagogue, and he, with others, aided in founding Bayswater Synagogue. Mr Van Praagh was before his synagogue in communal policy, and assisted Mr Henry A. Isaacs in completing work this latter took in hand - the act of union. He became a warm friend of the Bayswater sacred edifice. Mr Van Praagh was for many years a member of the Board of Deputies, and held office of its Treasurer. And not only in public, but in private life was he regarded with respect and affection. His manner was genial, and his bearing was gentle and considerate to those who were at the bottom of the social ladder; he not only held out a helping hand, but strove to make the recipient feel to receive aid was not degradation' on 29 December 1871.2 He left a will on 20 January 1872; as 'Morris Van Praagh, diamond merchant and Jeweller, [which] was proved under £9000 personalty' as recorded in The Illustrated London News.18
