     Alfred James Buckingham was born on 5 September 1912 at London, England; and his birth was recorded at Fulham Registration district in the December quarter 1912; his mother's maiden name was Hurford.^3,2 He married Lydia Emma Philbrook, daughter of Albert James Philbrook and Lydia Jayne Paynter, in 1936 at London, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hammersmith Registration district in the September quarter 1936.¹ Alfred James Buckingham and Lydia Emma Philbrook lived in 1937 at 105 Loveday Road, Ealing, Middlesex, England; with Thomas Cecil and Rose Alice Buckingham.⁴ Alfred James Buckingham and Lydia Emma Philbrook lived between 1938 and 1939 at 2 Winchester Street, Acton, London, England.⁴ Alfred James Buckingham died in 1985 at Middlesex, England; and his death was recorded at Brent Registration district in June 1985.²

     Richard Walker was baptized on 17 April 1881 at St Peter, Battersea, London, England.^1,2 He was the son of Richard Lawrence Walker and Emma Scotcher.¹ Richard Walker appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Battersea, London, England, as Son, age 10, birthplace Battersea, London.¹ He appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Wandsworth, London, England, as Richard Walther, son, age 20, birthplace Battersea, Surrey.³

     Hannah Challenger was also known as Ann.^2,3 Her married name was Carter.⁴ She was baptized on 20 February 1814 at St Michael and All Angels, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and her abode was Wightwick.^1,5 She was the daughter of John Challenger and Sarah Stokes.¹ Hannah Challenger married Charles Carter on 13 March 1837 at St Michael and All Angels, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and they were both of the parish; their witnesses were Ann Hamlett and J.      Godson Godson was born on 25 May 1839 at Islington, London, England; and his birth was recorded at Lambeth Registration district in the June quarter 1839.^3,2,4,5 He was christened on 23 June 1839 at St Mark, Kennington, London, England; and his parents were William Frederick Godson and Elizabeth.^3,6,7 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Clapham, Surrey, England, as Son, age 11, birthplace Lambeth, Surrey, and he was a Scholar.⁸ He married Isabella Hunt Sanderson on 2 November 1867 at St Anne and St Agnes, City of London, London, England; and their marriage was registered in the December quarter 1867 at City of London Registration district, London, Middlesex; he was a Clerk of Clapham Road, age 28 and she was of Saint Anne and Saint Agnes.^4,9,10 Godson Godson lived on 13 January 1871 at Melrose, Luton Road, Clapham, London, England; and his profession was recorded as Civil Service on the day his Daughter Ethel was baptised.¹¹ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 31 Fitzwilliam Road, Clapham, London, England, as Head, married, age 32, birthplace London, Surrey and he was a 'Customs Warehouse Keepers Dep'. He was living with his Wife, Isabella, Son William and Daughter Ethel. Also in the household lived two Domestic Servants.⁴

He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at 4 Sisters Terrace, Lavender Hill, Battersea, London, England, as Brother-in-law [of Bessie Jane Sanderson], Widowed, age 41, birthplace, Islington, London, Middlesex, and his occupation was in 'H M Civil Service (C S O).¹'

He died on 15 June 1889 at 2 St Mary's Hill, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, at age 50; and his death, at age 50, was recorded in the June quarter 1889 at Stamford Registration district.^12,13 His estate was probated on 23 October 1889; and The 1889 National Probate Calendar records: 'The Will of Godson Godson formerly of Redhill in the County of Surrey but late of 2 St. Mary's-hill Stamford in the County of Lincoln who died 15 June 1889 at 2 St. Mary's-hill was Proved at the Prinicipal Registry by Henry Thomas Godson of 38 Disreali-road in the County of Surrey Station Master the Brother the sole Executor.¹⁴'

     Jack Harold Soan was born on 12 January 1924 at Kent, England; and his birth was recorded at Bromley Registration office in the March quarter 1924.^1,2 He was the son of Harold George Soan and Annie Yorke.¹ Jack Harold Soan died in 1981 at Kent, England; and his death was recorded at Tunbridge Wells Registration office in theJune quarter 1981.²

      Frederick John George Jones was also known as George Jones.² He was born on 10 February 1854 at Alford, Lincolnshire, England; and his birth was recorded at Spilsby Registration district in the March quarter 1854.^1,3,4 He was the son of Frederick Hart Jones and Georgiana Brown.¹ Frederick John George Jones was baptized on 26 April 1854 at St Wilfrid, Alford, Lincolnshire, England; as Frederic John George Jones, son of Frederic Hart Jones, Surgeon Dentist, and the family abode was in Alford.⁵ He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at Ironmonger Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, as Son, age 7, birthplace Alford, Lincolnshire.⁶ He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at St Marys Hill, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, as age 17, birthplace Alford, Lincolnshire, and he was an 'Articled Bankers Clerk.¹' He appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at London Road, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, England, as F.J.G. Jones, Head, unmarried, age 27, birthplace Alford, Lincolnshsire, and he was a Bank Clerk. Also living in the household was his Housekeeper.⁷

He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Castle Street, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England, as Frederic J.G. Jones, Lodger, in the boarding house of George and Sarah Williams, single, age 37, birthplace Alford, Lincolnshire, and he was employed as a Bank Clerk.⁸

He married Mary Elizabeth Weddell, daughter of Samuel Weddell and Mary Ann Curtis, in 1894 at London, England; and their marriage was registered in the June quarter 1894 at Wandsworth Registration district.^9,10 Frederick John George Jones appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 20 High Street, Ashford, Kent, England, as Frederick J.G. Jones, Head, married, age 47, birthplace Alford, Lincolnshire, and he was a Bank Manager. He was living with his Wife Mary. The household also had a Visitor, Sarah F Clarke [Niece], and two Servants: a General Domestic and a Housemaid.⁹

He was listed in Kelly's Directory of Kent, 1903 as follows:

He was described as 'my cousin George Jones, Bank Manager, of Ashford in the County of Kent' by Agnes Hillatt Jones when she appointed him as Executor and Trustee to her Will written on 16 December 1903. He was, however, not able to execute her Will as he predeceased her.²

He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 20 High Street, Ashford, Kent, England, as Head, married, age 57, birthplace Alford, Lincolnshire, and he was a Bank Manager. His wife and two servants completed the household.¹³ He lived in 1913 at 20 High Street, Ashford, Kent, England; and he was the Ashford Branch Manager of London County & Westminster Bank Ltd.¹⁴

He was executor for his mother and the National Probate Calendar for 1913 records: 'Jones Georgiana of Bridge House St. Mary Stamford Lincolnshire (wife of Frederick Hart Jones) died 28 September 1881 Administration London 16 December to Frederic John George Jones bank manager'.¹⁵

He died on 7 June 1923 at Shelford, Cambridgeshire, England, at age 69; and his death was registered in 1923 at Cambridge Registration district.^3,16,17 He was buried at Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire, England.^3,18,19,20 His estate was probated; and the 1923 National Probate Calendar reads: 'Frederic John George Jones of the Crossways Great Shelford Cambridgeshire died 7 June 1923 Probate London 12 July to Mary Elizabeth Jones widow.²¹'

     John Challenger was baptized on 14 August 1839 at St Michael and All Angels, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and his birth was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the Septembr quarter 1839.^1,2,3 He was the son of William Challenger and Sarah Hamlett.¹ John Challenger died before 24 October 1841 at Wightwick, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and his death was recorded at Wolverhampton Registration district in the December quarter 1841.^4,5 He was buried on 24 October 1841 at St Michael and All Angels, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England; and he was 2 years old.^6,5

     Cecil James Powell was born on 30 July 1911 at Surrey, England; and his birth was recorded at Farnham record office in the September quarter 1911.^1,2 He was the son of Graham Cecil Powell and Annie Isabel Underwood.¹ Cecil James Powell died in March 1987 at Somerset, England, at age 75; and his death was recorded at Bath Registration office in March 1987.²

      Her married name was Searle.¹ Nellie Caffin was born on 31 January 1899 at Sussex, England; and her birth was recorded at Horsham registration office in the March quarter 1899.^2,3 She married Harold Frank Searle, son of Edgar William Searle and Sophia Cooper Dollery, on 21 April 1924 at All Saints, Witley, Surrey, England; and their marriage was recorded at Hambledon record office in the June quarter 1924.^1,4 Nellie Caffin died in 1981 at Surrey, England; and her death was recorded at Surrey South Western registration office in the June quarter 1981.³

     Leonard Ford was born on 16 June 1893 at West Norwood, London, England; and his birth was recorded at Lambeth Registration district in the September quarter 1893.^1,2,3,4 He was the son of Lewis John Ford and Ada Emma Philbrook.¹ Leonard Ford appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 67 Exeter Road, Croydon, Surrey, England, as Son, age 7, birthplace West Norwood.¹ He emmigrated from England to Canada in 1906.⁵ He his name appears in the Alberta Homestead Records 1870-1930:

The Alberta Genealogical Society website provides the following information:

'Under the Dominion Lands Act, once Crown land had been surveyed and officially declared available for settlement, individuals could apply to homestead a quarter section (160 acres) of their choice. Then, after paying a $10 filing fee and 'proving up' their homestead claim (occupying the land for at least three years and performing certain improvements, including building a house and barn, fencing, breaking and cropping a portion of the land), the homesteader could apply for patent (title) to the land.

Dominion Lands Branch in Ottawa managed the homesteading process, although business was conducted at local land agency offices throughout the Province. When each quarter section was homesteaded for the first time it was given a file number and all documents relating to that quarter were placed on file until the land patent was granted.

Control of natural resources was transferred to the provinces in 1930 and records of active transactions were turned over to the Province. Documents related to patented lands, abandoned claims and other dormant records were also transferred to the Province in 1956. These records were microfilmed and the originals destroyed. The resulting 686 microfilm reels were transferred to the PAA and are found in Accession 1970.313. It is this collection that has been indexed by Alberta Genealogical Society volunteers.

Homestead files normally contain:

An application for homestead, containing the applicant's name, age, birthplace, last residence, prior occupation, number of adults and children in household.
An application for patent, containing name, age, occupation, post office, nationality, residency information, wife/children (no names), breaking/cropping, livestock, buildings, fencing.
A notice that patent (title) has been issued.⁶' He appeared on the census of 1916 at 24 Battle River, Alberta, Canada, as Son, age 23, birthplace England, Farmer's Son.⁵ He appeared on the census of 1920 at Custer, Whatcom, Washington, United States of America, as Son, single, age 27, birthplace England, immigraton year 1919 (?) and he was a Farmer.⁷ He married Ava Cleo (?) on 16 March 1922 at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and their ages at first marriage were 29 for Leonard and 18 for Ava Cleo.^3,8 Leonard Ford entered United States of America on 29 May 1923 at Blaine, Washington, United States of America.³ He and Ava Cleo (?) lived in 1926 at Bellingham, Washington, United States of America; and they were listed in Bellingham, Washington City Directory.⁹ Leonard Ford was quoted by his brother Arthur Charles Ford, (as Leonard J Ford) on crossing from Canada to the United States of America,
as intending to join him on 24 February 1927.¹⁰ He appeared on the census of 1930 at 1105 West Seventy Sixth Street, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, United States of America, as Head, married, age 38, birthplace England, year of immigration 1919 and he was a Decorator for a Contracting firm. His wife and son completed the household.¹¹ He was naturalized on 9 June 1942 at Oklahoma, United States of America; as age 49, married with one son and he was a Decorator, having resided continuously in the United States of America for three years.³ He died in September 1962 at Washington, United States of America, at age 69.¹²

     Eleanor Elizabeth Searle was born in 1925; and her birth was recorded at Epsom record office in the June quarter 1925.¹ She was the daughter of Harold Frank Searle and Nellie Caffin.¹

      Her married name was Searle.¹ Mabel E Elliott was born on 12 July 1894.² She married Leonard Edgar Dollery Searle, son of Edgar William Searle and Sophia Cooper Dollery, on 24 September 1924 at St Andrew, Cobham, Surrey, England; and their marriage was recorded at Epsom record office in the September quarter 1924.^1,3 Mabel E Elliott died in 1965 at Surrey, England; and her death was recorded at Surrey South Western Registration office in the March quarter 1965 at age 70.⁴
