He emigrated between 7 April 1861 and 1874 from England; to Australia. He married Mary Ann Miller in 1874 at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.4,5,6,7 George Philbrook married Elizabeth Jane Widdy on 6 May 1881 at Bible Christian Parsonage, Skipton Street, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia; and their marriage was recorded at Victoria.8,6,9,10 George Philbrook was put in communication with his parents as set out in the following item headed 'Long Lost Relatives' which was published in Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper (London, England) 16 June 1889: 'Since 1872 George Philbrook, the only son of John Philbrook, of Stratford, had not been heard of; but his parents (Jan. 6) thought he might be in Australia. Under date April 5 the son wrote to us from Ballarat, Victoria, a genial letter of thanks, and asked us to forward an enclosure to his parents, who acknowledged the same thus:— "We return you many thanks for the trouble you have taken to find our dear son. We have not seen him for 18 years, and we should not have heard of him now if it had not been for you".11

He was again in the press as his contact with his parents appears to have lapsed a second time as the following item appeared in The Brisbane Courier of 11 October 1892 'Missing Friends. Helping to find lost Relatives': 'PHILBROOK, George, only son of John Philbrook, in October, 1889, was addressed "67 Urquhart-street, Drummond-street, S. Ballarat, Victoria." His parents get no reply to their letters, and earnestly beg for news.12'
