     John Slyfield was born circa 1521; and he was referred to as being 'of Byfleet' in 1584.1 He was the son of Lawrence Slyfield and Alys (?).1 John Slyfield witnessed the will of John Slyfield on 18 May 1584 at East Clandon, Surrey, England; 'John Slyfield (X) of East Clandon, yeoman 18 May 1587 (to be buried in the church; to repair of church 3s. 4d.) to my wife Cicely Slyfield a feather bed and its trappings, a coverlet, blankets, a bolster, four pairs of best sheets, two table cloths, seven napkins, two pillows, a brass pot next to bed, a cauldron next to bed, a great kettle, a little kettle that was brought last summer, three platters, two pewter dishes, two saucers, two quarters of wheat, two quarters of barley, a cow, a two year old cow bullock, two flitches of bacon, two living hogs (one weaner, one sow), half a pewter, a little grey mare, two coffers she brought with her at marriage, lease of land at tenement in Pyrford I had from Walter Doswell, gentleman, a brass posnet she brought, a bedstead in the chamber over the hall with tester and curtains of plain cloth, two tubs, a firkin, a cupboard, four yards of grey russet, my little towel on a settle and a hoop chair, two pillows covered with fustian, a warming pan for beds, three bowls (two great, one little), seven sheep (five ewes, two wethers), one of best candlesticks, a stall of bees, brass mortar used to beat spices in and a Danish chest; to my sons William Slyfield and Edward Slyfield £30 at 24 and six wether sheep each; to my son James Slyfield all land and tenements in East and West Clandon in the occupation of Nicholas Parsone; to my son John a quarter of barley, half a quarter of wheat and my best doublet; to my daughter Ann Jurden a quarter of barley; to my brother John Slyfield of Byfleet two bushels of wheat; to my eldest son George two ewe sheep; residue to my sons James and Thomas Slyfield execs. Overseers: Edmund Slyfield of Slyfield, Great Bookham, Esq; brother John Slyfield (10s. to latter). Proved 2 June 1587'.1

John Slyfield died before 5 November 1596.2 He left a will on 5 November 1596; Will proven.2

     Isaac Nobbs was born circa 1785 at Arreton, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.1,4 He was the son of James Nobbs and Grace Young.2,3 Isaac Nobbs was baptized on 22 November 1785 at Godshill, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.3,5 He married Sarah Reed, daughter of James Reed and Ann Sanders, on 2 February 1811 at St George, Arreton, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England.6,7 Isaac Nobbs lived on 5 January 1817 at Newport, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and he was given as an Ironfounder at the time his daughter Ruth Nobbs was Baptised.8 He lived on 21 May 1824 at Merston, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and he was a Boatman at the time his daughter Ann Nobbs was Baptised.9 He lived on 4 February 1827 at West Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and he was a Blacksmith.10 He was probably the person referred to as 'Issac Nobbs Gun Makers in the High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight' in 1830.11 He lived on 4 December 1831 at West Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and he was a Blacksmith.12 He appeared on the census of 6 June 1841 at Cumberland Place, Mary Terrace, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as age 57, born in the county and he was a Blacksmith.13 He was a Blacksmith on 3 April 1842.1 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as age 67, birthplace Arreton, Isle of Wight.4 He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 19 York Street, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as Head, age 77, birthplace Arreton, Hampshire, and he was a 'Blacksmith formerly'. He was living with his Wife Sarah. Also in the household was a Lodger.14

He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 19 York Street, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England, as Head, married, age 88, birthplace Godshill, Hampshire, and his Occupation was written as 'Blacksmith (unemployed).15' He died before 11 July 1874 at Cowes, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; age 91 and his death was registered in the September quarter 1874 on the Isle of Wight.16,17 He was buried on 11 July 1874 at Northwood Cemetery, Northwood, Isle of Wight, Hampshire, England; and the ceremony was by William Beale, registrar H J Damant.18,19

     Douglas Henning was born in 1918 at Middlesex, England; and his birth was recorded at Brentford Registration district in the December quarter 1918; his Mother's maiden name was Melhuish.2 He was the Son of Dallas Henning (born 1884 in Camberwell) and Lily Hardwick Melhuish (born 1886 in Camberwell), who were married in Camberwell in the March quarter 1918.3,4,5 He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at Brentford, Middlesex, England, as born at Ealing, Middlesex, in 1918.6 He married Doris Whiting, daughter of James Winston Whiting and Lucy Punter, in 1941 at Middlesex, England; and their marriage was recorded at Brentford Registration district in the March quarter 1941.1 Douglas Henning died on 30 May 1942; during the Second World War and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission provide the following information:

Probate was awarded to his Father, profession Photo-Engraver.9 He was commemorated and Location Information is provided by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission: 'This Memorial overlooks the River Thames on Cooper's Hill at Englefield Green between Windsor and Egham on the A308, 4 miles from Windsor' and they also provide Historical Information: 'The Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede commemorates by name over 20,000 airmen who were lost in the Second World War during operations from bases in the United Kingdom and North and Western Europe, and who have no known graves. They served in Bomber, Fighter, Coastal, Transport, Flying Training and Maintenance Commands, and came from all parts of the Commonwealth. Some were from countries in continental Europe which had been overrun but whose airmen continued to fight in the ranks of the Royal Air Force. The memorial was designed by Sir Edward Maufe with sculpture by Vernon Hill.      Edward Nokes was also known as Edward Noakes.2 He was born on 15 February 1866 at Hornchurch, Essex, England; and his birth was recorded at Romford Registration district in the March quarter 1866.1,3,4 He was the son of John Nokes and Mary Ann Mead.1 Edward Nokes was baptized on 25 March 1866 at St Andrew, Hornchurch, Essex, England.5,6 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at Village, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as Son, age 5, birthplace Hornchurch, Essex, and he was a Scholar.7 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1881 at Southend Road, Stanford-le-Hope, Essex, England, as Son, age 15, birthplace Hornchurch, Essex, and he was a Scholar.1 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at 11 High Street, Devizes, Wiltshire, England, as Lodger [in the household of John Shadwell, Gardener], age 25, birthplace Hornchurch, Essex, and he was employed as a Grocer's Manager.8 He lived before 14 August 1892 at 2 The Pavement, South Street, Isleworth, Middlesex, England.9 He married Martha Elizabeth Cope on 14 August 1892 at St Stephen, Villa Street, Walworth Common, Southwark, London, England; and their marriage was registered in the September quarter 1892 at St Saviour Registration district; Edward was a Grocer.10,11,9,12,13 Edward Nokes appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 30 Bishops Road, Lambeth, London, England, as Edward Noakes, Head, age 35, birthplace Hornchurch, Essex, and he worked as a 'Grocer's Shopkeeper'. He was living with his Wife Martha and Sons Edward E and Sidney G.
