Albert Cyril Lewin Phillips lived on 29 September 1939 at 23 St Paul's Square, York, Yorkshire, England; where he was on the 1939 Register.10 He died on 12 December 1943 at age 34; when he was killed in action during the Second World War and The Commonwealth War Graves Commission provide the following details: 'Phillips, Albert Cyril Lauin. Rank: Flight Sergeant. Service No: 1543711. Date of Death: 12/12/1943. Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 143 Sqdn.2' He was the subject of an obituary announcing 'Sgt. Navigator A.C.L. Phillips, R.A.F.V.R. beloved husband of Ursular (née Giles) and ... son of Winifred and Lewin Phillips, 44, Frederick Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham' was killed in action in December 1943.11 His estate was probated; and the 1944 National Probate Calendar records he was 'of Newlands York-road Huxley Yorkshire died on or since 12 December 1943 on war service' and Probate was granted at Birmingham on 26 October 1944 to 'Ursula Fisher Phillips widow'.3

He was commemorated on Panel 138 of The Runnymede Memorial, Englefield Green, Surrey, England and The Commonwealth War Graves Commission details are as follows:-

'Location Information: This Memorial overlooks the River Thames on Cooper's Hill at Englefield Green between Windsor and Egham on the A308, 4 miles from Windsor.'

'Historical Information: The Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede commemorates by name over 20,000 airmen who were lost in the Second World War during operations from bases in the United Kingdom and North and Western Europe, and who have no known graves. They served in Bomber, Fighter, Coastal, Transport, Flying Training and Maintenance Commands, and came from all parts of the Commonwealth. Some were from countries in continental Europe which had been overrun but whose airmen continued to fight in the ranks of the Royal Air Force.

'The memorial was designed by Sir Edward Maufe with sculpture by Vernon Hill. The engraved glass and painted ceilings were designed by John Hutton and the poem engraved on the gallery window was written by Paul H Scott. The Memorial was unveiled by The Queen on 17 October 1953.2,12,13,14'

      Leon Coriat was also known as Leon (Judah) Coriat.2 He was born circa 1832 at Telman, Morocco.3,4 He was born after the book itemised in the Jewish Encyclopedia by Isadore Singer: 'Coriat Jewish family of Morocco. In 1812 there appeared at Pisa a Hebrew work, under the title "Zekut Abot," in which three members of this family collaborated—Judah, his son Abraham, and his grandson Judah. This book contains an account of the religious customs of the Jews of Morocco, and gives their names, as well as the names of the places in Morocco inhabited by Jews.' The Coriats were also described as one of the important families of North Morocco Jewish Community.5,6

He married Esther Jones, daughter of Samuel Aaron Jones and Maria Emanuel, on 4 January 1865 at Bevis Marks, London, England; and their marriage was recorded at London City Registration district in the March quarter 1865.1,7,2 Leon Coriat lived in 1870 at 14 Porteous Road, Paddington, London, England; where his name was in The London Post Office Directory.8 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 14 Porteous Road, Paddington, London, England, as Head, married, age 35, birthplace Telman (Tetouan/Tetuan?), Morocco, and he was a Merchant.
