      Lewin Mosely was also known as Lewin (Yehuda) Mosely. He was born in 1807 at Whitechapel, London, England.3,1,4,5,6 He was the son of Benjamin Issachar (Moses) Mosely and Rose (Raze) Levy.2 Lewin Mosely married Lydia Alex, daughter of Solomon Alex and Rachael Jones, on 25 December 1832 at Great Synagogue, Dukes Place, City of London, London, England; and their entry in the Great Synagogue Marriage Register is as follows:

Lewin Mosely was a Dentist and Cameron Hawke-Smith says of The Moselys they were 'perhaps as equally numerous a dental dynasty as the Joneses (see 'Brass Plate and Brazen Impudence' by C Hillam, pp. 90-91)'.1 He was listed in 'Post Office London Directory, 1841. [Part 1: Street, Commercial, & Trades Directories] as follows:

     'Dentists. Mosely Lewin, 12 Berners street.4,8'

He was advertising as a Surgeon Dentist in the Post Office Directory and the Post Office Court Directory in 1846 at 12 Berners Street, Oxford Street, Westminster, London, England.9,10 He appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Head, married, age 43, birthplace London, Middlesex, and he was a Surgeon Dentist. He was living with his Wife Lydia, Son Frederick and Daughters Amelia, Rachel, Leah and Rosa. Two House Servants completed the household.11

He was also travelling as a family concern as in the Wigan Times of 1853 'regular notices appear advertising that Messrs Mosely, Surgeon Dentists established 20 years, will be attending at Wigan every Thursday at Miss Ainsworths, confectioners'. Recorded in the 1851 Census was a Mary Ainsworth at Market Place, Wigan, Lancashire, who was born in Wigan, age 29, spinster, was Head of a household containing her sister, niece and a servant, and was apparently the Confectioner in the advertisments.12,13,14

He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Head, married, age 54, birthplace Middlesex, and he was a Dentist.3 He was listed in the Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Directory 1863, at Banbury with Neithrop, Oxfordshire, at 16 High Street and 30 Berners Street, London.15 He was listed in a notice, signed and dated 8 February 1868, in the London Gazette announcing that the partnership between Lewin Mosely, Simeon Mosely; Benjamin Lewin Mosely, Simeon Mosely the younger, and Frederick Solomon Mosely carrying on business at 30 Berners Street, Middlesex, 448 The Strand, Westminster, 'and at several provincial towns in England' trading as 'Lewin and Simeon Mosely and Sons, as Surgeons and Mechanical Dentists' would be dissolved so far as it relates to Benjamin Lewin Moseley on 14 February 1868.16 He was listed in a notice, signed and dated 2 March 1868, in the London Gazette of 26 March 1869 announcing that the partnership between 'Lewin Mosely, Simeon Mosely, Simeon Mosely the younger, and Frederic Solomon Mosely, in the practice or profession, of Surgeons and Mechanical Dentists at London, Kingston-upon-Hull, Leeds, Sheffield and Hereford, under the style of Lewin and Simeon Mosely and Sons, was on 31st day of May, 1869, dissolved by mutual consent, and in future the said practice or profession, will be carried out by the said Lewin Mosely, Simeon Mosely the younger and Frederic Solomon Mosely, in London at No. 30 Berners-street, and No. 448 The Strand, and also at Hereford, and by the first named Simeon Mosely, at Kingston-upon-Hull, Leeds and Sheffield'.17

He appeared on the census of 2 April 1871 at 30 Berners Street, Marylebone, London, England, as Edwin Mosely, Head, married, age 64, birthplace Whitechapel, and he was a Surgeon Dentist. He was living with his Wife Lydia, Daughters Amelia and 'Maria' and Son 'Francis'. Two Domestic General Servants completed the household; one was born in 'Africa, Cape' and the other in Sussex.6,18

He was 'known to be in dental practice' in 1872.4 He died on 23 May 1875 at Hampton Railway Station, Richmond Upon Thames, Surrey, England; and the following announcement was publised:

     'Lewin Mosely
     Death 23.5.1875 in the 69th year of his age, of 30 Berner's Street, Oxford Street [London]'

His death was registered at Kingston Registration district in the June quarter 1875.4,19,20,21 His estate was probated on 23 October 1875; and granted to 'Albert Phillips of Rea-street South Birmingham in the County of Warwick Bedstead Manufacturer a Creditor' who was married to his Daughter Rachel.4,22

     Frederick James Christopher Daborn was born on 24 June 1865 at Chobham, Surrey, England; and his birth was recorded at Chertsey record office in the September quarter 1865.1,2 He was the son of Maurice Daborn and Nevelia Elizabeth Jones.1 Frederick James Christopher Daborn appeared on the census of 3 April 1881 at High Street, Chobham, Surrey, England, as Son, age 15, birthplace Chobham, Surrey.1 He appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 at Old Windsor, Berkshire, England, as Lodger, Single, age 26, birthplace Chobham, Surrey and he was a Carpenter.3 He married Mary Louisa Moir, daughter of John Moir and Caroline Woodhatch, on 3 August 1892 at St Lawrence, Chobham, Surrey, England; and their marriage was registered in the Chertsey registration district in the September quarter 1892.4,5 Frederick James Christopher Daborn appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at Chobham, Surrey, England, as Head, age 35, birthplace Chobham, Surrey and he was a Joiner and Painter.4 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 31a Quinton Street, Earlsfield, Wandsworth, London, England, as head, married, age 45, birthplace Chobham, Surrey.6 He died on 8 November 1945 at 15 Norman Avenue, St Margarets, Twickenham, Middlesex, England, at age 80; and his death was recorded at Brentford record office in the December quarer 1945.7,8

     Alastair Leveson George was born on 5 May 1914 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.1,2 He was the son of Frank Charles George and Alice Mary Earls Davis.1 Alastair Leveson George enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy before and during WWII. Firstly at Sydney, New South Wales, 1 December 1935, and then at Perth, Western Australia in 1939; later giving his next of kin as his wife Barbara after their marriage between 1 December 1935 and 1 June 1939.3,4,5,6 He lived between 1936 and 1937 at Belle View Hill, Wentworth, New South Wales, Australia; and he was recorded on the Electoral Roll as a Clerk.7 He and Rosemary Leveson George were reported in the Sydney Morning Herald in the following item published on 1 January 1937: 'Lieutenant and Mrs, Frank Leveson George and their nine months' old daughter, Diana, have arrived from Melbourne to spend a short holiday with Lieutenant George's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank George, at Bayard, Point Piper. Miss Rosemary George and Mr. Alistair George motored from Sydney on Christmas morning to bring the party from Melbourne.'

Alastair Leveson George and Barbara Adair Boileau were engaged on 27 May 1942 at New South Wales, Australia; and an announcement was placed in The Sydney Morning Herald describing them as 'only daughter of Mr and Mrs H S Boileau of Goulburn to Paymaster Lieutenant Alistair George, R.A.N.V.R., second son of Mrs. and Mrs Frank George, of Winslow Gardens, Darling Point.8' Alastair Leveson George married Barbara Adair Boileau in December 1942 at Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia; and an announcement was made in The Sydney Morning Herald of 12 December 1942.9,10 Alastair Leveson George left the Royal Australian Navy at the end of the war and his posting at Discharge was Pay Lieut. on HMAS Rushcutter on 15 November 1945.2,11 He and Barbara Adair Boileau lived in 1949 at Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia; and they were recorded on the Electoral Roll as clerk and doing home duties.7 Alastair Leveson George was recorded in documents, held at State Records (Western Sydney Records Centre): 'Primary Application - Alastair Leveson George, Parish of Pokolbin County of Northumberland' between 6 August 1949 and 13 March 1951 at New South Wales, Australia.12 He and Barbara Adair Boileau were an elector on the Australian Electoral Roll and he was a Road Manager and she was involved in Home Duties in 1954 at 75 Darling Point Road, Edgcliff, Woollahra, New South Wales, Australia.13 Alastair Leveson George died on 30 November 1976 at New South Wales, Australia, at age 62; and his death was recorded in New South Wales.14,15 And his death notice was published in the Sydney Morning Herald on 2 December 1976 and described him as 'late of Woollahra.15'

     Everilda June Hughes was born on 17 June 1922; and she was the daughter of Richard Pierce Hughes. In 1958 Canada was the 'Country of which [she was] a citizen as shown on passport. (If citizen of U.K. and colonies state also country of issue of passport)' on a ship's manifest.2,3,4

She was recorded as a 27 year old Stenographer arriving in Southampton, England, aboard the Washington, which had sailed from New York. Her proposed address was 37 Addison Road, London, W14; she had last resided permanently in Canada and she intended to permanently reside in future in The British Empire. Also travelling on the ship was Stuart D Campbell, a 28 year old Grocer, who gave the same London address and details of residence on 14 September 1949.5 She was married to Stuart D Campbell and their marriage was recorded at Kensington Registration district, London, England, in the December quarter in 1949.6,2,7,8,9 As of 1949, her married name was Campbell.7 She was a passenger arriving at Tilbury, London, England, on 24 January 1953 sailing on P&O's Stratheden, from Sydney, Australia, embarking at Melbourne, age 30, whose last country of permanent residence was Australia. Her propsed address for her stay in the United Kingdom was 37 Addison Road, London, W.14., and this address was also for Shirley H Cruickshank, age 42, and Charles Colin Campbell, age 2.10,11

She was a passenger arriving at London, England, on 2 June 1958 sailing on P&O's Himalaya, from Sydney, Australia, embarking at Melbourne/Fremantle, born 17 June 1922, single, citizen of Canada, whose occupation was Part-time Sales Representative. Her proposed address for her stay in the United Kingdom was c/o Dr & Mrs Floyd, Borcha, Kilkeel, Co. Down, Northern Ireland, and this address was also for citizen of Australia, student Charles Campbell, born 11 October 1950. Both were permanent residents of Australia on a six month visit.3

She was the subject and part author of manuscript papers dating from 1961-1993 deposited at The National Library of Australia, where she is described as 'Everilda June George (formerly Campbell, nee Hughes) was the wife of Rear Admiral Frank Leveson George. She was the Honorary Secretary of the Asthma Foundation of Victoria, 1964-1965' A summary of the papers is also provided:

'Memorabilia of June George including personal correspondence, 1961-1991, and official letters of recommendation for an overseas trip, 1965-1966; newspaper clippings, 1966-1986; invitations to official functions, 1956-1991 (including tickets to the 1956 Melbourne Olympics); and other papers including a photocopy of the funeral service of Rear Admiral F.L. George, 18 May 1992. There are also papers relating to June George's involvement in the Asthma Foundation of Victoria, including annual reports, 1964-1981, and writings by George on the history of the Foundation. Other files relate to the Women of the Year Luncheon, 1984-1991, Dr Barnardo's Women's Auxiliary, 1968-1969, and, the Women's International Club, 1982-1986.

'The Acc07/125 instalment comprises letters and postcards from author Catherine Gaskin (also known as Catherine Cornberg) to Mrs. F.L. (June) George. In addition, a small number of news clippings and colour photographs of Gaskin.2'

Her married name was George.7 She married Rear-Admiral Frank Leveson George, son of Frank Charles George and Alice Mary Earls Davis, on 20 September 1966 at Australian Capital Territory, Australia.1,6 Everilda June Hughes died on 5 February 2009 at Australian Capital Territory, Australia, at age 86; and announcements were published in The Canberra Times and which described her as 'late of Campbell, ACT' and age 86.12 Her estate was probated; and notices were published in The Canberra Times on 13 February and 27 March 2009.12

      Alexander Banfield-Tubbs also went by the name of Alec Banfield-Tubbs.2 He was born on 26 May 1910 at St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, and he was the son of Frank Thornton Banfield-Tubbs and Beatrice Cave Gould.1,3,4,5 He was an elector registered and listed on the Australian Electorial Rolls 1901-1936, at least three times from c 1931 at Balaclava, Victoria, Australia.6 He was a Salesman circa 1936.1 He was recorded on a New Zealand, Passenger List, embarking at Sydney, Australia, on the Mariposa on 11 January 1936.7 He and Helen Wynne George were engaged on 16 January 1936; and an announcement was made in Table Talk (Melbourne) Bendigo Chatter with a photograph of the lady with the following caption: 'Miss Wynne George, daughter of Mrs W. E. George, 9 Hennessy Avenue, St. Kilda, and of the late Mr George, who recently announced her engagement to Mr Alec. Tubbs, younger son of Mrs F. Banfield Tubbs, Broadway, Elwood, and of the late Mr Banfield Tubbs.8' Alexander Banfield-Tubbs arrived at San Francisco, California, United States of America, sailing on the Mariposa, from Sydney, Australia. He was 25 years old with the calling or occupation listed as 'student' on 27 January 1936.9 He married Helen Wynne George, daughter of Wynne Ernest George and Sarah Ann Snowdon, on 16 November 1937 at Victoria, Australia.1,10 Alexander Banfield-Tubbs enlisted in the Australian Army during WWII at Hobart, Tasmania, giving his next of kin as his wife Helen and the National Archives of Australia hold item 6381676 in the Second Australian Imperial Force Personnel Dossiers Series for this period, his Service Number was TX8799 on 22 April 1942.3,11 He was Discharged from the Australian Army and his posting at Discharge was Warrant Officer Class 2 with the 31 Company AASC on 21 November 1945.11 He and Helen Wynne George lived in 1963 at 28 Dalmeny Road, Northbridge, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; and they appeared on the Electoral Roll as Sales Manager and carrying out Home Duties.12 Alexander Banfield-Tubbs died on 23 January 1977 at New South Wales, Australia, at age 66; and his death as Alexander Bamfield TUBBS was announced in the Sydney Morning Herald two days later.13,14,5 He was buried at Leura Memorial Gardens and Crematorium, New South Wales, Australia; at Tubbs Garden.15

He next appears arriving at Ellis Island, New York, United States of America, on 1 March 1923, travelling on the Regina from Liverpool, England. He is recorded as married, age 30, from Wallasey, England, and for ethnicity 'Gt. Britain, Welsh'. Having paid for the passage himself, he was in possession of 50 dollars, had not been in the United States before, and he was to join his Sister-in-law, Miss Rosen, of 443 - 16th Street, Brooklyn, New York. His purpose in coming to the United States was given as uncertain. He was 5 foot 4 and three-quarter inches tall, with a sallow complexion, brown hair, grey eyes and he was born in Shrewsbury, England. He appears to have decided to stay in the United States as his wife and infant son arrived in New York five months later intending to stay permanently in the country.

     Major Gilbert Sidney Jones LDS, DSO was born before 4 May 1892 at Stamford, Lincolnshire, England; and his birth was registered in the March quarter 1892 at Stamford Registration district.2,1,4 He was baptized on 4 May 1892 at St Martin, Stamford Baron, Northamptonshire, England.4 He was the son of Albert Sidney Jones LDS and Ethel Godson.1,3 Major Gilbert Sidney Jones LDS, DSO appeared on the census of 31 March 1901 at 59-60 High Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, as Son, age 9, birthplace Stamford, Lincolnshire.3,5 He appeared on the census of 2 April 1911 at 59-60 St Martins, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, as Son, age 19, birthplace Stamford, and he was a Dental Student.6

He served in the Royal Field Artillery in the Great War [WWI 1914-1918] and The Supplement to the London Gazette of 5 July 1915 records 'Cadet Gilbert Sidney Jones, from the University of London Contingent, Senior Division, Officers Training Corps, to be Second Lieutenant. Dated 6th July, 1915'. The National Archives contain his British Army WWI medal card for the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the 1915 Star, as Second Lieutenant and then Lieutenant Captain, from service in the threatre of war in France starting 11 November 1915. He appears to have 'Retd' 10 April 1923.7,8

He appeared on the census of 19 June 1921 at St Marylebone, London, England, as born at Stamford, Lincolnshire, England, in 1892.9 He was listed in the Dental Surgeons Directory in 1925.10 He appeared in The London Gazette of 19 November 1937 when it was announced that the King had conferred the Terrorial Army 'Efficiency Decoration upon the undermentioned Officers under the terms of the Royal Warrant dated 23rd September, 1930: — ...Infantry...4th Bn. Lincoln. R.— ...Maj. Gilbert Sidney Jones'.11

He was recorded as a Dentist between 1937 and 1950 at 59-60 High Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England.1,12 He served in the Second World War [1939-1945]. The London Gazette Third Supplement of 22 October 1940 records he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order by the King 'in recognition of gallant conduct in action with the enemy'.

Peter Golden writes 'An undated press cutting gives more detail; “Major Gilbert Sidney Jones, 6th Bn., Lincolnshire Regiment, who won a DSO for his part in evacuating the Dunkirk beaches, 1/2nd June 1940. Major Jones stood up to his chest in water and under heavy shellfire assisted exhausted soldiers into the boats." (He was 2iC of my father's battalion)'.

He married Harriet Brain in 1940 at Lincolnshire, England; and their marriage was recorded at Lincoln Registration district in the March quarter 1940.16,17 Major Gilbert Sidney Jones LDS, DSO died on 3 February 1959 at Lincolnshire, England; and his death was recorded at Stamford Registration district in the March quarter 1959.18,19 His estate was probated on 4 August 1959; and the 1959 National Probate Calendar records he was 'of The Cottage West Street Stamford Lincolnshire' and Probate was granted at London 'to Harriet Jones widow.19'
