From this particular Hawley line we can trace the connection to the Macfie family of Clarenceville, for whom this web page was constructed.
The Macfie's are not the only Clarenceville family to intermarry with the Hawley and it would not be altogether inaccurate to state that at least 85% of the families originating from the Clarenceville area have Hawley blood lines. Today however there are no Hawley's left in this area, most of them returned to the United States to seek their future and few have ever returned other than to do genealogy work. Many of the Hawley males went to western Canada, where land was being offered by the gouvernment The Hawley Home was sold to outsiders after the death of the last Hawley, Clarence who died in 1985. The Hawley cemetery, which is located on a piece of farm land adjacent to the Hawley Home on South Beech Ridge, and became the resting place for the family and many of their neighbors.
As to the Macfie, well two of Alexander Macfie's children married thier counter parts from the Hawley family . The eldest son Robert married Sarah Eliza Hawley, and his eldest sister married Herman Allen Hawley. Through this Hawley line the Macfie family has the privilege of being able to claim United Empire Loyalist connections, and proudly display U.E.L. after their family name.
As the children of
these families grew up, we find that many of the Hawley moved as
did the Macfie into the same areas of both developing countries (
Canada & the USA) where they worked together in many concerns.
William Alexander Hawley was a mining supervisor in Grass Valley where
John Macfie his uncle was located, and Eugene
Creller also.
Marshall Peter Hawley moved out west to Assiniboia with
Claude Robert Macfie where they continued to farm.
For a
more complete viewing of the Hawley family itself we suggest
that you take the time to review their home page

There is a more complete story on Reuben Hawley beginning at page 22 it provides a good idea of what the families who settled
in the Clarenceville area experienced, while the Hawley experience might be more involved , most of the families of Clarenceville encountered some of the same difficulties.
Those who remained loyal to the British and who had some family member join the British forcesmight have no doubt experienced the uncertainty of the times.
Ann Hawley married Aaron Scott and then a Christopher Winters
