Surnames of Our Texas Family

The years roll on relentlessly and clouds obscure my memory
But beloved faces come to me; my dear departed family.
Their struggles are now history compiled upon my family tree.
Their skeletons for all to see, laced richly with humanity.
Their tears and wars and harmony. Their ignorance and illiteracy,
Intelligence and decency. Their wisdom, wit and courtesy.
A large assembly watches me and whispers from eternity.
Somehow I feel they're close to me anticipating eagerly.
I cannot stem my welling pride for those who cried and tried and died.
Who persevered unsatisfied and now in bliss reside"
