ANCESTORS of JUANITA RITA FREDERICK

One of our new graduate students several years ago was from Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  We spoke occasionally about New Orleans, and I discovered that he shared at least one family with my wife – they are both descendants of Mathias FREDERIC.  So I started adding his FREDERIC ancestry to my database, and inevitably found that he and my wife shared other lines – PERILLOUX and SAVOIE, for example.  Then I began tracing his ancestors to see how many other times he was a cousin to Linda.  It turns out that his grandmother Juanita FREDRICK and Irvin ROME are 4th (twice), 5th (3 times), 6th (3 times), 7th (4 times), 8th (5 times) and 9th (3 times) cousins.  They have numerous common ancestors.  Since I had many of the family files already, I added the ones I didn’t have and came up with the following genealogy.  Although many of these ancestors are shared with the “ANCESTORS of IRVIN JOSEPH ROME”, there are also a number of new families here.  I must admit I have not pursued the “new” families as deeply as I did Linda’s ancestors.  But I hope this helps a few of you to find some of your own roots.  Feel free to point out errors that I have included.  Above all, enjoy.

Organization – I don’t know the histories of these families as well as I know the “ANCESTORS of IRVIN JOSEPH ROME”.  Nonetheless, I’ve put them into some of the same broad categories I used for Irvin.  Because I didn’t spend as much time with some of these families, and because they seemed to move around somewhat more than Irvin’s ancestors, I’ve grouped together the John Law colonists and other early colonists from Mobile, AL, New Orleans, St. James, Pointe Coupee, St. Martinville, and some from Illinois.  (If I didn’t know where they fit in, I put them in this group.)  There are a few ancestral families who are only found in Europe, ancestors of the Louisiana families.  This information was mostly obtained from German Coast Families by Albert J. Robichaux Jr.  Juanita FREDERICK has many more Acadians in her ancestry than does Irvin.  There are a few French families who came to Louisiana with the Acadians when they returned to North America in the 1780s; some French Canadians from Quebec; Alsatian immigrants of the 1750s; and some 18th century Louisiana and Mobile soldiers.  In general the families are traced back to Europe, although there are some branches that terminate as late as the mid-nineteenth century.  Sometimes (Anne and Francoise THIBODEAU, Gabriel BLANCHARD) this is because the Acadian records from the mid-eighteenth century are spotty because of the Acadian dispersion.  Or I don’t have access to the records.  Help with the ancestry of Felicia DUGAS, who married Charles SAVOIE about 1867, probably in St. Martin Parish, would be particularly appreciated.

References - Nearly all my “facts” are referenced to sources.  To avoid repetition and save space, I have used abbreviations for many of the sources I consulted.  The references document contains most of the publication information that should allow you to find the data I used in constructing my genealogies.  Where no references are given, the fact is my own speculation, or I have lost track of the source.

In the files, ancestors of Irvin Joseph ROME are marked with IR, ancestors of Juanita Rita FREDERICK are marked with JF, ancestors of Joseph Emile BLUM are marked JEB, ancestors of Buddy Keller are marked BK.
