m. ISABEL STEWART (m.1. Alexander, Earl of Ross)
d. 1449

Sir Walter of Dirleton was one of the hostages for James I when he was released in 1424. His annual income was estimated at 800 marks and he was released 29 Sept. 1425. In 1430 he was appointed an ambassador to England and was one of the Wardens of the Marches. In 1439 he was made Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. Douglas in his Peerage states that in 1440 he was made a Peer of Parliament as Lord Halyburton of Dirleton, however, the records of the Parliament of Scotland do not states that he sat as a Lord of Parliament. In 1444 he founded a collegiate church at Dirleton.

Some of the genealogies insert an additional generation of another Walter between Walter and Isabel and John and Janet, however, I have not found any primary sources to justify this.

George was the 3rd Lord Dirletoun, succeeding his brother in 1459. He had a charter to lands in the barony of Bolton and sasine of lands of Ballegarno and others in 1469. George first sat as a Lord of Parliament as Lord Halyburton from 1 Mar. 1478/9 until 21 Mar. 1484. As Lord Dirleton he was a member of Parliament on 1 Oct. 1487 and 11 Jan. 1487/8 and died before 28 Apr. 1490.
