Robert was a ship's carpenter and came to Canada on the Saint Jean Baptiste with his employer J.B. Francois Deschamps sailing from Dieppe in June 1671. He obtained a grant of land from the Intendant Jean Talon on 29 Oct. 1672 in Riviere Ouelle. He had a grant from Sieur Deschamps on 10 Nov. 1674 of 12 arpents by 30 arpents south east of Riviere Ouelle which was increased to 42 arpents by a deed dated 1683. Robert's neighbors were Galleran Boucher and Damien Berube. Over the years, Robert Levesque accumulated a large amount of land, especially after acquiring three lots from Joseph Renaud in 1692. At the end of his life, he had two lots of 12 arpents by 42 and three other smaller ones. His wife inherited part of the land granted by Sieur DesChamps to her son Nicolas Le Canteur who died in 1692 at the age of 20.
Robert built his house and began clearing the land. During the 20 months between 1675 and 1677, he worked to build the "house" for the Seminary of Quebec. During his last four month contract, the books of the Seminary indicate that he is committed to working "on the frame". Robert Levesque was also responsible for building the first church in Rivire-Ouelle.
Robert was also a member of the militia who helped defend Riviere Ouelle from Phipps' attack in 1690.
The book on the Descendants of Robert Levesque and Jeanne-Marguerite Chevalier mentions that the parents of Jeanne-Marguerite are Jean Chevalier and Marguerite Romian. The Book of Silvio Dumais on the "Filles du Roi", indicates that she was one of them. This was in reference to her first marriage to Guillaume Lecanteur. It reads Jeanne Chevalier Daughter of the Deceased Jacques (Alexandre) Chevalier and Marguerite Scorban. Jette indicates that her parents were Jacques-Alexandre Chevalier and Marguerite Scorban or Scorinan. Father Archange Godbout who examined the French Records indicates that her parents were Jacques Chevalier and Marguerite Scorban. In the Biographical Dictionnary of Michel Langlois, Jeanne Chevalier is the daughter of Jacques-Alexandre Chevalier and Marguerite Scorban of St. Jacques de Dieppe, Normandie, France.
