Robert lived during the reign of Richard II. The origin of the family can probably be traced to the saxon Ravenchil, later Ravenchild, who held three carucates of land in Shipley. The later Rawsons were connected to Shipley.(1)

    3I. RICHARD (ROBERT 1, RICHARD 2)

    Richard was a citizen and mercer of London and Sheriff of London in 1476, 1478 and 1483. He was elected alderman of the ward of Farringdon in 1475. He was senior warden of the Mercer's Company.

    In the records of the Salter's Company 13 Feb. 16 Edward IV (1476/7) is a grant by William Isaac, citizen and draper, and Richard Isaac, citizen and draper to William Horn, citizen and Salter and merchant of the staple of Cales, Robert Basset, citizen and Alderman, and John Colyn, chaplain of the George on the Hope otherwise the Ledenporche in All Saints. Recognized before the Mayor and Richard Rawson, Alderman.(2)

    On 22 Feb. 1484 is a feoffment of all those lands, tenements, rents, reversions and services, meadows, pastures and woods, with roads, hedges and ditches with the appurtenances belonging to Richard Rawson, citizen and alderman of London, Richard Empson, gentelman, John Stannford, gentleman, Thomas Hore, mercer, John Lamplewe, grocer, all of London and William Hille of Tottenham. In the parishes and fields of Tottenham and Edmonton or elsewhere in the County of Middlesex which they lately held jointly as a grant from William Courtman, Senior and William Courtman junior, brewers, William Ilger and David Panter, goldsmiths, all of London and Humfry Oliver, plumber. John Byrd, yeoman and Richard Lone, brewer, appointed as assigns. Dated 22nd Feb. 2 Richard III (1484). (1)

    In his will Richard gave donations to the church in Fryston and from repairing the highways in Pomfret, Sherburn, Fryston and Castleford, Yorkshire. Isabella in her will gave a donation to the free chapel of Gressenhall, Norfolk where her son Nicholas was master.

    Richard and Isabella were buried in the church of St. Mary Magdalen on Old Fish Street in London. The church was destroyed by the Great Fire of London in 1666.

    4I. ALURED (ROBERT 1, RICHARD 2, RICHARD 3)

    On 27 Oct. 1494 Richard Frye, Esq. of London, Esquire to King Henry VII, acknowledged that he owed �40 to Alured Rawson, citizen and mercer of London.(2) Alured was a citizen of London, merchant of the Staple of Calais, and Lord of the Manor of Aveley in 1509.(1)

    Agreement from John Miller, gent., and Avery Rawson, citizen and Mercer of London to John Hugford of Princethorpe, Warwickshire, gent., concerning a bond of Statue Staple of Westminster, 19 Mar. 1504 in the amount of 200 marks to perform 4 May 1504 a bargain and sale from john Hugford to Avery Rawson and Nicholas Rawson, gent., his brother, of the lands of John Hugford in Baginton and Ethorpe, Warwick. To repay �93 6s. 8d. on 29 Sept. 1511 or within a month after, 20 marks on 25 Mar. 1512 or within a month after and paying 20 marks yearly on that date until the bond is void, when this occurs the estate shall be seized to the use of John Hugford and delivered to him or his attorney. Dated 22 Feb. 1511.(3)
