Kate L. Bear was born September 18, 1874, perhaps in St. Mary's Township, Hancock County, Illinois.
Jennie R. Bear was born in Ohio on August 7, 1880, probably in German Township, Montgomery County.
They were the daughters of
 Albert S. and Lydia Rees Bear.
Albert and Lydia came to Illinois from Ohio soon after they were married in 1866, began their family, went back to Ohio, then returned to Illinois in the early 1880s. According to documentation on Lawrence Bear, their son, Albert and Lydia and family located in Hancock Township, Hancock County, about 1882. They remained in Hancock Township, near Joetta, for a number of years.

Kate and Jennie were members and an active participants in activities associated with Majorville Church. In the Majorville Souvenir booklet, Jennie was singled out for mention as a booster of the marvelous annual picnics held at the church and enjoyed by hundreds of attendees.

Both Kate and Jennie began careers as teachers early in life, and followed that work in several states.

Kate died October 27, 1955, at Summum, Fulton County, Illinois. Jennie died April 13, 1959, in Denver, Denver County, Colorado. Close in life, they are also close for eternity. They are buried side by side at Summum Cemetery, Fulton County, Illinois. |
