Benjamin Bloyd, son of Levi Bloyd and Barbara Winn, was born in Kentucky on April 9, 1827. He married Emeline Hobart on December 30, 1855, in Hancock County, Illinois.
Emeline, daughter of Jonas Hobart and Polly Farr, was born March 1, 1837, in Carthage, Hancock County. She died November 2, 1868, and was buried at Webster Cemetery, Fountain Green Township, Hancock County. Benjamin and Emeline's children were:
On October 5, 1869, Benjamin married Mrs. Mary White (nee Austin). Mary was born July 2, 1836, in New York (date calculated from tombstone inscription), the daughter of Francis B. and Eleanor Austin. Mary was the widow of Thomas B. White, who had been killed during the Civil War at the Battle of Champion Hills in Mississippi. At the time Mary and Benjamin were wed, only two of her seven children by Thomas White were still living: Mansel and Freeman. Benjamin and Mary became the parents of:
Mary died March 19, 1875, probably in or near Fountain Green Township. Benjamin buried her by Emeline at Webster Cemetery. Benjamin died 10 years later, on May 17, 1885, and he, too, was laid to rest at Webster Cemetery. |
