1934 "We'll Guess With You - Even Their Wives Can't Tell Cinek From Criswell!"
They are not twins, but Louis Cinek and Bert W. Criswell look so much alike that people can't tell them apart. Even their wives have mistaken one for the other.
Two Omaha men, Louis Cinek and Bert W. Criswell, bear such a close resemblance that their friends, even their wives, often mistake one for the other.
If they had been born twins, they couldn't look more alike, their friends say.
Their facial features are nearly the same. Cinek weighs 267 pounds and Criswell, 260. Cinek is six feet, two and a half inches in height and Criswell, six feet three inches. Both have blue eyes and light hair, combed the same way. They are about the same age.
Cinek did business with Criswell for many years; yet the pair met for the first time only last fall at a picnic. They became good friends and have been together many times since.
Long before they met, people had difficulty telling them apart. Once, Criswell relates his wife stopped Cinek on the street, thinking he was her husband. And Cinek tells of the time his wife addressed Criswell as "Louis" when she saw a man downtown she though was her husband!
One of the recent excursion of the chamber of commerce Tribe of Yessir to North Platte aboard the new Union Pacific streamline train, Cinek and Criswell were labled the "twins" of the trip. Throughout the trip other members of the party kept calling Criswell "Louis" and Cinek "Bert".
Cinek and Criswell are alike in another respect. They both reside on the south side. Cinek lives at 5212 So. 24th and Criswell at 27th and Harrison Sts.

News story in the Omaha paper, 1934, copy furnished by Lester Criswell, son of Bert Criswell, Sr., Oct. 1999. Photo scanned and article transcribed here by Cynthia Schulze-Bent Marcell, Nov. 1, 1999.

Dear Cindy Marcell,
Today I came across your family history web page which includes two separate references to CRISWELL family members.
I am researching the Descendants of Robert Criswell Sr (1740-1825) and Elce Vance (1744-1796) of York county, Pennsylvania.
Your James S. Criswell who married Mary J. McKinley and your William Patterson Criswell who married Catherine ??? are two of their descendants.
If you are correct in stating that William Patterson Criswell is the Great-Grandfather of Bert Criswell Jr. and Les Criswell, then I believe that Bert Criswell's parents were William Alva Criswell & Sarah E. Godsey who were married 14 Mar 1891 in Iowa. They had a son whom I have been unable to identify. Bert Criswell Sr's 1895 birth date would fit. William and Sarah both died in Nebraska. Bert Criswell regularly attended Criswell funerals in Malvern, IA, but is never identified in the obituaries in terms of his relationship to the family. Did Bert West Criswell Jr. and/or Lester Irvin Criswell have children?
I'd be interested in sharing information. Bill Hawkins, Sept 14, 2004
