R. B. OVERLANDER, farmer, P. O. Leona, was born in Knox County, Ill., October 7, 1844, and was there reared. He is the son of John Overlander and Sarah Hayes, the former a native of Pennsylvania, born in 1799 and died in 1851. R. B. resided and farmed in the Sucker State until 1869, when he came to Kansas, locating where he now resides. He has a fine farm and is one of the solid men of Wolf River Township. He has been twice married: First, in Highland, Doniphan County, to Miss Linia Matherson, June 19, 1870. They had six children - Samuel W., Rufus M., Charles L., Sarah E., Jessie L. and John E. Mrs. O. died June 7, 1881. He was married on February 15, 1882, to Ella E. Miller, of Andrew County, Mo.

"Religion: was a minister in Holt County abd organized the Mill Creek Church 1841 Holt Co., MO
Note:
Greenberry Thorp was instrumental in organizing the Regular Baptist (Hard Shell) group of worshipers that erected in 1843 the first church building in Holt County which they called the Mill Creek Church. It was located in Lewis Township, Section 36, Township 60, Range 38. The Charter Members of this church were Mrs. Margaret Stephenson, Judges James Kimsey and James Adkins, Abraham and Ethelbert Brown, John and Daniel Baldwin and their wives. Greenberry Thorp served as their pastor until his death and was buried beside his wife Nancy Linville in the cemetery nearby. Greenberry was also the first physician in the county. Greenberry Thorp is buried in Mill Creek Baptist Cemetery two miles east of Oregon, MO. The cemetery is about 100 yards off of Highway 59. The cemetery receives no care and is surrounded by private property.
The Martin building was torn down several years ago. The building was known as the D. M. Martin building.
