This is the last will and testament of me Henry Maddock of number one Newsham Terrace in the Borough of Douglas. Gentlemen I hereby revoke all former wills codicils and testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made or executed and declare this only to be my last will and testament. I leave devise and bequeath all that estate and those lands and premises to me belonging situate in the Parish of Lonan consisting of 60 acres and commonly called and known by the name of Balladhoo together with all the buildings and erections thereon and thereto belonging and all implements, stock, growing crops and effects in upon or about the said estate – also all my monies including monies in the Post Office Savings Bank and cash in hand also my household furniture linen plate and household goods and effects and also all the rest residue and remainder of my estate whether real or personal of every or description and wheresoever situate to which I may be entitled or which I may have power to dispose….

Page 2 … of at my decease unto George Alfred King His Majesty’s Attorney General for the Isle of man and my son Edward Maddock now resident with me, and their assigns and the survivor of them, and the heirs executors administrators and assigns of such survivors according to the nature and character of such property (the said George Alfred King and said Edward Maddock and their assigns, and the survivor of them and the heirs executors administrators and assigns of such survivor being hereinafter referred to and included in the expression “my executors” Upon trust as soon as conveniently after my decease to sell call in collect and convert into money the said real and personal estate at such time or times and in such manner as my Trustees shall think fit and so that they shall have the fullest power and discretion to postpone the sole calling in or conversion of the whole or any part or parts of my estate during such period as they shall think proper without being responsible for any loss or damage thereby arising whatsoever, and after payment of all debts….

Page 3 ….. funeral and testamentary expenses or otherwise to divide the residue equally between my children Edward Maddock Mona Maddock Charlotte Elizabeth Maddock (all of whom are residing with me) Henry Gayer Maddock and Standish O’Grady Maddock (both of whom are now resident in South Africa) – share and share alike – And I declare that any bequest made by me in this will to any female shall be for her sole and separate use free from the debts liabilities and control of any husband or husbands - And I further declare that the said George Alfred King shall be entitled to receive all usual professional charges and emolments notwithstanding his acting as one of the Executors and Trustee of this my Will and shall also be entitled to additional remuneration at the rate of one per cent upon the gross amount of my real and personal estate - I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said George Alfred King and the said Edward Maddock Executors of this my will - In Witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this twentieth day of May One thousand nine hundred and four …..
