Fire
An Old Man Burned to Death
On Saturday morning last a small building in North Charleston occupied by Mr. H. Ritter, an old soldier of the War of '12 who fought under General Jackson at New Orleans, took fire and burned to the ground; and its only occupant, Mr. Ritter, was burned to death. While the building was burning thr heart-rending cries and groans of the old man were distinctly heard by those who were using their best efforts to rescue him from the building. Mr. Ritter was upwards of 80 years of age, and was quite feeble. He was buried yesterday by the sharp shooters, with military honors.

J. J. Ritter died this morning at 4:15 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Slack, No. 106 Kanawha Street. Deceased was eighty three years of age. No arrangements have been made for the funeral.
