Burgess, were believed to have been killed when troops of the Missouri State Militia burned their home which was located 10 miles south of Warrensburg in the Post Oaks Township of Johnson County, Missouri. Sometime prior to1870, his wife and children returned to Kanawha County, WV where they settled on Grapevine Creek in the Poca District. Emily never remarried."
