Per the 1860 Annotated Boone Co, VA census, he was the son of a Robert Clendenin. (no proof or source was offered) . A descendent of Robert Clendenin states that Ancil was positively not the son of the Robert Clendenin who lived in Logan Co, VA in the late 1840's. (And she has proof.)
No other Robert has been found living in this area of WV at that time.
