Enoch was the son of Francis and brother of Benjamin VICKERMAN, of Taylor Hill, Huddersfield.   Enoch was originally in partnership with his brother Benjamin  at Stepps Mill, South Crosland, as manufacturers.   The partnership ended and Enoch continued at Stepps Mill

On the twentieth day of November 1861, the Will of Enoch VICKERMAN, late of Steps Mill in South Crosland in the parish of Almondbury in the County of York, Woollen Cloth Manufacturer and Merchant deceased, who died on the sixth day of October 1861 at Harrogate in the said county of York was proved in the District Registry attached to Her Majesty’s Court of Probate at Wakefield by the Oaths of Albert VICKERMAN, of Steps Mill aforesaid, gentleman, the son of the said deceased, Thomas BROOKE the younger of Northgate Mount in Honley in the said parish of Almondbury. Woollen Cloth Manufacturer and Merchant, Joseph SYKES of Marsh House in Lindley in the parish of Huddersfield in the said county, Card Maker and George JESSOP the younger of Honley aforesaid, Oil Merchant, the Executors therein named they having been first sworn duly to administer.

This is the last Will and Testament of me, Enoch VICKERMAN of Steps Mill in South Crosland in the Parish of Almondbury in the County of York, Woollen Cloth Manufacturer and merchant made this twenty sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty one.

First I direct payment of all my just debts, funeral testamentary expenses.

I give and bequeath all my household furniture plate linen china books prints pictures paintings and portraits my wines and other consumable household stores, my horses and carriages and appendages and my own hay corn utensils and implements (if any) in and about my stable and outbuildings unto my dear wife Elizabeth VICKERMAN absolutely.

I also give to my dear wife for her life an annuity or annual sum of four hundred pounds to be paid to her in four equal quarterly payments computing one quarter of a year backwards from my decease so that one quarter payment shall be due at my decease with a proportionate payment for the time between that last previous quarterly day and her decease. I declare that the provision above made for my wife shall be taken and accepted in lieu and in full [xxx] and satisfaction of all her right or title to dower or other estate or interest in my real and personal estates respectively.

After payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and excepting the specific bequests above given to my wife, I give and devise all my remaining personal estate and all my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever to my trustees my son Albert VICKERMAN, my son in law Thomas BROOKE jnr of Northgate Mount in Honley Woollen Cloth Manufacturer and Merchant; and my friends Joseph SYKES of Marsh House, Lindley, Card Maker and George JESSOP jnr, of Honley, Oil Merchant, their heirs executors administrators and assigns respectively according to the respective natures and tenures thereof upon trust to call in and convert into money all such parts of my remaining or residuary estate (including any bank shares) as at my decease shall not consist of money or ………

….. except and after setting apart therefrom the sum of seven thousand pounds for my grandson Francis Thomas BROOKE shall be considered as one general fund and hereinafter mentioned ……..

…..... and to apply so much of the income thereof as they my trustees may think proper towards the education or otherwise for the advantage of my grandson Francis Thomas BROOKE during his minority and any unapplied income shall be …. To the said Francis Thomas BROOKE absolutely on his attaining the age of twenty two years …....

And I empower my trustees at any one time or at several times to lend to my said son on his own personal security or otherwise as they may think proper or if they think fit to give to him absolutely any sum or sums or part or parts of my said ‘trust fund’ not altogether exceeding the aggregate sum of five thousand pounds ….....

…..... as shall be the number of the three children of my late nephew Walter VICKERMAN deceased who shall be then living or if then dead shall then be represented by their respective child children or issue then living ………………….

I appoint my said son, Albert VICKERMAN and the said Thomas BROOK junior, Joseph SYKES and George JESSOP jnr joint Executors of this my Will and lastly I revoke all former wills by me heretofore made and declare this and the five preceding sheets of paper to be and contain my last Will and Testament
