| Orphans in Chicago?
1880,.Lakeview Township, Cook County, IL from Prussia |
The 1880 US Census as transcribed by the LDS on their
census CD set shows four SEIBEN youth aged 11 to 19 recorded among
a list of many other children with several nuns topping the list.
What may or may not be relevant is that this facility, boarding school
or orphanage is spaced two households away from the Michael Weber family
whose mother, a SIEBEN, was the aunt of Michael Sieben of the Sieben Brewery
in Chicago. NO connection can be found for these four children in
Ebersheim however.
This dwelling may be the Angel Guardian Orphanage which was located on Ridge Blvd. at Devon Avenue. (suggested by Joe Weber, a descendant of a brother of Michael Weber.) Henry SEIBEN Other M S W 19 PRUSSIA
UPDATE: Jan 31, 2003
In the final pages of the publication, there is a listing of "Priests, Brothers and Sisters, who at one time in their childhood, spent at least a few years at Angel Guardian." Within the listing appear: |
