FIFTH GENERATION

124. Ruby Iva Mae BOGGS was born on 23 Jan 1913 in Rome, Floyd Co., GA. She was baptized in 1931 in Rome, Floyd Co., GA - Armurchee Baptist Church. Ruby was baptized by Preacher Dr. R. C. Dailey. (He was the preacher that followed Rev. James Arthur Smith). This was near Crystal Springs. She was salutatorian of her high school graduation in 1932.
Ruby Bogg's Salutatory Speech:
Dear Parents and Friends, for the last time the class of 1932 stands in the position of host to a distinguished gathering. Friends, I am not going to say it all. Instead we are going to put forth every effort to prove to you how much we thank you for coming, to repay you as much as possible for the pleasure and pride your presence brings to us, by doing and saying something that will make you feel that you have not come altogether in vain, nor yet for our sake alone, but because it is good to be here.
This event is not an impromptu one because we have been making preparation for a long time. Just four years ago we entered High School quietly and without celebration. During all these years the time has been spent in preparation under the competent leadership of our teachers. These years have been full of pleasant anticipation, and although we found the path wearisome at times, we have never failed to receive inspiration from the Seniors that passed on before us. Each May we saw our predecessors receive their friends and entertain them with the very best they had to offer. So now in our turn we are ready to welcome our friends to our graduation and make our debut into the alumni society.
And you kind friends, as we step forth to represent in the outside world, the school from which we pass have a right to ask of us that we show our colors - that we give our principals, our aims, and our ambitions - for it is through them and what we make of them, that all honor must reflect upon the school whose seal we bear. We trust that you may ever find us faithful to those virtues for which you have trained and taught us to stand, as we face the problems that are to confront us outside. If we do this as you have instructed us we shall never be ashamed to know that the boys and girls in the remaining classes of the school are watching the career of the class of 1932 with eager eyes and resolving to follow in our foot steps.
And now to you all, who have so kindly come to watch the passing of the class of 1932, from its High School life, we can only in our feeble way attempt to express our pleasure in your coming. We will do our best to make you feel as truly glad you came as we are glad to have you with us. With this aim in our minds, dear friends, I thank you once more for coming and extend to you in the name of the Class, our most grateful and sincere Welcome.
(Handwritten at the bottom of the address - I finished High School in 1932 at Gore High School near Summerville, Ga. This was my speech in Program, since I came out second in class, I gave the Welcome - Ruby Boggs)

She died on 17 Nov 1999 in East Point, Fulton Co., GA. Ruby had Alzheimers for about 4 1/2 to 5 years. Max Smith, her husband, took care of her to the end. They had been married 63 1/2 years. She was buried on 19 Nov 1999 in Atlanta, GA - West View Cemetery. She was also known as Snib; Polly.(226) There is a photo of Ruby that was given to Max, signed "love, Snib". Ruby told Mike that he would still be living then, but that she wouldn't be. She only missed the year 2000 by 1 and a half months.
