Info from Jon Pittman (his son - email: 1/31/2011):
Dad, born halloween in 1894, had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. His mother and father and an older brother died in a flu epidemic when dad was 3. Dad was born a Wood...and at the death of his mother and father was adopted by a Dr. Pittman. A childless doctor in Jefferson Georgia who grew herbal medicines and sold them across the state and around the world by train out of Jefferson. Dad on the wood side also had some Cherokee in his blood line. Clara Wood who died when Jet blue crashed in the swamp in Florida back in the 80's was our first cousin on our Wood lineage side, by blood. We were Pittman due to the adoption of our Dad when he was 3 years old. All this I have discovered in the last 15 years of research. We were also double kin to the man who created ether - there's a museum in Jefferson Georgia in his honor. I'm told that we are also close kin to the Venebales who donated Stone Mountain to the State of Georgia. We are kin to over 1/2 the people in north Georgia on the Pittman/Wood side, and the other 1/2 on the Boggs/Brown side.
