Abner Mecoy was born in Craven County, NC, on May 22, 1802. He lived most of his childhood near Murfeesboro along the Stones River, in Rutherford County, TN. In March of 1815, his father John Mecoy died while serving The War of 1812. His mother, Mary Beesley Mecoy married again to John Patterson and the family moved to McNairy County, TN. On January 2, 1824, Abner married Polly Ann Ferrell, daughter of Charles Ferrell. Abner and Polly had eight children. In 1836, they purchased Indian land in Tippah County, Mississippi, from the government during the Choctaw Cession. The family moved to Mississippi and settled between Ruckerville and a village known as Tiplersville and made their living farming and raising livestock. Some of this original land is still owned by Abner and Polly's descendants. His descendants are plentiful, if you are from north Tippah county you might be a descendant of Abner and Polly.

ELIZA JANE COOPER April 25, 1858 in Tippah County, Mississippi, daughter of ROBERT COOPER and SARAH ISOM. She was born 1840.JOHN FERRELL MECOY, b. January 01, 1830, Tennessee; d. December 08, 1910, Tippah County, Mississippi. CSA Veteran. He married WINNIE MAHALIA TAYLOR December 31, 1851 in Tippah County, daughter of WILLIAM TAYLOR and WINNIE STANLEY. She was born April 04, 1833 in Tennessee, and died April 17, 1917 in Tippah County.
WILLIAM CARROLL MECOY, b. February 03, 1833, Tennessee; d. November 30, 1907, Tippah County, Mississippi. CSA Veteran. He married NANCY MARINDA SIDDALL March 01, 1866 in Tippah County, Mississippi, daughter of JOSHUA SIDDALL and NANCY. She was born July 26, 1842 in Mississippi, and died June 17, 1914 in Tippah County, Mississippi.
MARY ANN MECOY, b. October 28, 1834, McNairy County, Tennessee; d. October 22, 1922, Red River County, TX. She married DANIEL DAVID ARCHER January 18, 1860 in Tippah County. He was born April 11, 1838, and died May 05, 1912 in Red River County, TX.
SARAH EMALINE MECOY, b. December 24, 1836, McNairy County, Tennessee; d. August 05, 1920, Charleston, Tipton County, TN. She married WILLIAM JAMES MCINTYRE December 21, 1859 in Tippah County, son of WILLIAM MACINTYRE and JANE STEWART. He was born November 05, 1826 in North Carolina, and died December 05, 1898 in Ripley, MS, Tippah County.
MARGARET SAMANTHIA MECOY, b. March 26, 1838, Tippah Co., MS. She married ISRAEL A. PICKENS, JR. January 22, 1865 in Tippah County, son of ISRAEL PICKENS and NANCY BURDEN. He was born 1840 in Coosa County, Alabama. Both died in the late 1880's of Tuberculosis and are buried in Hardeman County, TN.
ABNER MARTIN VANBUREN MECOY, b. December 31, 1842, Tippah County, Mississippi; d. Abt. 1888, Erath County, Texas He married MARIAH ROUNDTREE SHANDS December 23, 1866 in Tippah County, Mississippi, daughter of GIDEON SHANDS and MARIAH HARRIS. She was born 1849 in Mississippi, and died in Oklahoma.
ELIZABETH JANE MECOY, b. December 24, 1828, Tennessee; d. March 11, 1895, Tippah County, Mississippi. She married CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS THORTON, son of BLACKMAN THORTON and UNITY PATTERSON. He was born May 20, 1830 in Madison County, Tennessee, and died February 11, 1888 in Tippah County, Mississippi.
