It is unclear as to the cause of death of John M. McEwen. He died shortly after marrying Nancy H. Oldham McEwen in Tennessee, leaving Nancy and a young boy, William Jasper McEwen.
Nancy H. Oldham McEwen traveled from Tennessee to Texas with her Oldham family and there she received a Texas land grant.
John married Nancy H. (Hicks) OLDHAM, daughter of Moses OLDHAM and Christina TARPLEY, on 15 Feb 1838 in Madison Co., TN. (Nancy H. (Hicks) OLDHAM was born in 1821 and died on 25 Mar 1902 in Thorp Spring, Hood Co., Texas.)
