	to		|
Joseph Herd		|     Whereas I am entitled to a 
distributive share of the estate of George Pirtle deceased 
late of the County of White, And whereas I repose full and 
utter confidence in the honesty and integrity of Joseph 
Herd of said County of White.  Now therefore Know all men 
by these presents that I nominate constitute and appoint 
the said Joseph Herd my true and lawful attorney for me and 
in my name to receive and receipt for my distributive share 
of said Estate from the Administrator of said estate or who 
ever may hold the same and I hereby ratify and confirm all 
the lawful acts of my said attorney in the premises.  2nd 
November 1840.

Nicholas Oldham Clerk of White County Court - William 
Earles the above constituent with whom I am personally 
acquainted and who acknowledged the due execution of the 
foregoing Letter of Attorney for the purposes therein 
contained, which is recorded.  Witness my hand at office 
the 2nd day of November A.D. 1840.
