Correspondence
Email communication from Mark Wingate on October 10, 2003. Mark found the gravesite of R.C. Pirtle.
I was walking yesterday and found a family graveyard. The only marker I could make out said:
R. C. Pirtle
Born Nov. 15, 1820
Died Mar. 17, 1898
An inscription said "An honest man is the greatest(?) work of God."
Carved in relief at the top of the stone was the image of two hands clasped in a handshake. The carving was in a circular border with serrations inside the circle.
The location was in Davidson County, just east of the Nashville airport, not too far from the location shown for Lester's Lake on some maps.
