TIBBETS Henry Tibbets, who was born in London, England in 1596 was the first Tibbets in Dover, New Hampshire. He emigrated to this country in 1635 in the ship JAMES with two sons , Jeremy age 4 and Samuel age 2. Their mothers name is believed to have been Elizabeth Austin. It is unknown if this Elizabeth Austin is related to the other Austins in our family. In the clearance papers, he was called shoemaker. He died on June 27, 1676 in Dover Neck, Strafford, New Hampshire. His son Jeremy Married Mary Canney (1637 - July 02, 1706) from Dover N.H., and was a farmer by occupation and for a time was the keeper of the goal and was the first to hold that position in New Hampshire. Jeremy died on May 5, 1677 at Dover. Jeremy and Mary had 12 children:
Jeremy and Marys son Ephraim (b.1668/9) married Rose Austin and their child Ann (they had 11 children) married Paul Starbuck of Nantucket.
