I am researching the MALONE family which is my ancestor line. My earliest ancestor known at this time is James Malone who emigrated from Ireland prior to 1830 and settled in the eastern panhandle of what is now Fort Ashby, Mineral County, West Virginia. A picture of the fort that was named for an Enghlishman and became known as Fort Ashby can be viewed. By 1850, there is no record of James nor his wife, Elizabeth. The 1850 census records two children of James & Elizabeth living with a neighbor, Joseph Waggoner. They are George and Luke (James Luke Malone). George married Joseph's daughter, Susan Waggoner. {Joseph Waggoner married Nancy Atkinson)James Luke Malone "Luke" married another daughter of Joseph Waggoner... Jemima Ellen Waggoner. A third brother of George & Luke is believed to be Jesse Malone. I think he married another daughter of Joseph Waggoner... Verlinda Waggoner. I only know James Malone's wife first name... "Elizabeth." The Malone family is connected to several different family lines through marriages. I am most interested in Adams, Bonnet, Broome, Huff, Knotts, Long, Malick, Price, Umstot/Umstott/Umstadt, and Waggoner/Wagner/Wagoner. Feel free to contact me to compare notes.

I am also researching my mother's side of the family. My HILLEARY line begins with Thomas Hilleary who was born in 1620 in England. Prior to 1650, Thomas had immigrated to Calvert County, Maryland. The Hilleary family has ancestors in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Colorado, Virginia and West Virginia. The Hilleary name is connected to the following family lines: MONNETT, SPRIGG, Crabb, Beall, Belt, Berry, Dick, Graves, Koonce, Slagle, Squire, and Wilson. Feel free to contact me to compare notes.

A great deal of the information was obtained through sources such as the internet, court house records, and most importantly conversations with friends and relatives. I can not promise all the information is true. It is important when using the information you attempt to verify the facts. The facts given here are only as I know it. If you find errors, please send me an e/mail and I will correct the information and note the source. If you have a link to a particular family line or would like to receive information from individuals which are also interested in your line, please contact me.

I must caution you in using the information for the ancestor lines other than Malone, Hilleary, Sprigg & Monnet. I have had this information for several years and it was doing no one any good in a file. Use this information as a starting point and attempt to varify it. A great deal was taken from conversations with relatives. Make it a starting point. I hope it resolves your missing link and puts you in the right direction to continue your research.

September 11th has made us all think about the world and good ...the bad... which is within it.I do not mean to use this forum to get political, however, I will state my position concerning the current policies of President Bush. Jay Winik in "April 1865 The Month That Save America" words best decribes my feelings...."second-rate presidents are somehow always shaped, and prodded, and manipulated by the forces of history, great ones find ways to bend those forces of history to their goals." Just something to think about.
