BYE, WILLIAM

The late William Bye of Pilkington was b. in Northampton, Eng., and d. in 1886, at the age of 61. He came to Canada in 1825, and set. in Pilkington on lot 8, con. 3.

He was a Methodist, and in politics a Liberal. He was Tax Collector of Pilkington for many years. In addition to his farming he established a brickyard and tile manufactory, which he conducted until his death.

He was one of the foremost of the early settlers; an industrious man, respected by all. He left a considerable property. He m. Maria Frances, who is still living at the age of 75. Issue: Mrs. Henry Hall, set. in Pilkington; Mrs. Joseph Lasby (d.), Mrs. Thomas Howse (d.), Jacob, m. Christina Cleghorn, set. Pilkington; William, m. Agnes MacConnell, set. Pilkington; Mrs. Samuel Faskin, set. Clarkson; Nellie, set. Elora; Mrs. Peter Aitchison, Elora; John, Mrs. Wm. Faskin, Pilkington; Annie, a nurse in N.Y.; Mrs. Alexander Bain, Guelph, and Susan. John owns the homestead of 65 acres on lot 3, con. 8, where he is engaged in mixed farming, and feeds cattle for export. He keeps grade cattle and Yorkshire hogs. His farm is well cultivated.

He is a Methodist and a Liberal; was Auditor of the Township for three years.
