COOPER, THOMAS

This respected citizen of Puslinch was b. in Northampton, Eng., in 1827, and came to Canada in 1850, with only a few dollars in his pocket; but he had what was better, a wonderful capacity for hard work, and an unbounded faith in the future.

He first settled in Wellesley, but in 1875, he came to Puslinch and purchased 100 acres, lot 14, con. 2, where he has since resided. He m. Zelpah Johnston, and they had the following issue: Joseph, Mrs. Hugh Dunbar, Jacob, John, William and Mrs. Burtch.

Thomas Cooper and his wife are consistent members of the Meth. church, in which he was a class leader for many years. He was also a School Trustee in Puslinch. In politics is a Conservative. By dint of industry and good management he accumulated a nice property, and some years ago he and his wife retired to Hespeler where they are passing the sunset of their lives in comfort.

Of this family, Joseph and Mrs. Dunbar live in Galt; John and Mrs. Burtch, in Waterloo; and William, in Hespeler, while Jacob owns and resides on his farm , lot 11, con. 1, Puslinch. He m. first Rachel Adam, who d. in 1889. Issue: Alexander and Thomas. In 1894 he m. Charlotte Gilchrist. No issue. The Cooper family are most highly respected.
