CROWE, JOHN

John Crowe was born 1845 in Ontario and died in 1930, Iron Founder, English (1871), married Emma Raymond of Raymond's Sewing Machines,

1867 listed as foundry owner founder of Crowe's Iron Works,

1870 July 28 a patent was issued to him for "certain new and useful improvements in sewing machines",

1871 listed as owning an Iron Foundry with 28 employees,

1875 June 18 employees of Mr. Charles Raymond and Mr. John Crowe form volunteer fire company,

1877 Feb 3 contract let for erection new residence on Woolwich St., Guelph, to cost $4,000 1877 built a magnificent two story brick residence adjoining the Baptist Church. The style is in the Italian Villa, and is made more attractive by the erection of a handsome observatory in the centre of the building. There is a very elegant bay window facing on Woolwich Street. In size it is 36 by 30 feet with a kitchen 20 by 15 feet. There are eleven rooms in the house. Cost of the building $4,000 Contractors: masonry and cut stone Wm. Pearson and Son, brick work James Hicks, carpentering F.Small, plastering Peter Martin, tinsmithing, iron work and plumbing George Howard, painting James Garland, Mr. John Hall was the architect.
