EATON, JOHN

John Eaton of Peel Township, was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1813, and died in 1896 at the age of 83.

He came to Canada in 1853, without money, and in 1855 he took up 300 acres of land in the "Queen's Bush," lot 12, con. 7, Peel. By hard-work and strict attention to his business, he managed to accumiilate a fine property, and to educate and send out his children in the world, well fitted to fight its battles.

He was a Trustee and a member of the Quarterly Board of the Methodist church, and in politics a Conservative.

He married Margaret Boyle born 1816 and died in 1893, aged 77. Issue: Wallace; Thomas, in Preston Tp.; Mrs. John Maxwell, Salem; Archibald, in Preston; George, in Luther; Mrs. John Booth; Mrs. John Martin, Luther; John, on old homestead, and Hugh in the North-West.

John Eaton, Jr., was born in 1857. He owns 100 acres on lot 12, con. 7, Peel, where he carries on mixed farming. He, is very successful, overcoming a severe loss that he suffered, by having, some years ago, all of his buildings destroyed by fire. In 1875 he married Elizabeth Rumble. Issue: William F., Marguerite, Elias S. and Hugh W.
