James Hellyer b. Somersetshire, Eng. In 1833; d. 1903, age 70. He came to Canada and Arthur Tp. with his father, in 1849 at the age of 15 years, and set. Lot 16 con. 2. At that time the country was all bush, and starting as a poor boy, through his own efforts he succeeded in accumulating a comfortable fortune, and at his death left his family in good circumstances. He was active in everything that obtains to the welfare of the community in which he lived, and was held in esteem by all who knew him. He was a staunch Reformer and a life-long Methodist. He was School Trustee for many years, and for forty years a Steward of the Methodist church. In 1859 he m. Jane Langdale, who is living, age 65. There were seven children, two of whom are dead. The living are Mrs. Prewett, Toronto; Mrs. Cook Mount, Minesing, Simcoe Co.; Henry, North Dakota; Albert and Phillip.

Albert lives on lot 20, west of O.S.R. where he carries on mixed farming. He m. Ida, dau. of Henry Blyth, of Arthur.

Phillip lives on the homestead lot 20 W.O.S.R. , where he owns a fine property and buildings. He is a local preacher in the Methodist church, and a Liberal. He m. Hannah Darman, of Bruce Co. Issue: Cecil A. , Ruby E., Irene J., and Harold J.
