RICHARDSON, JOHN

John Richardson late of Peel, was b. in Yorkshire, Eng., in 1822, and d. at the age of 77. He came to Canada in 1841, and settled in Peel Tp., where he purchased 180 acres of lot 6, con. 9.

Mr. Richardson brought no money with him, but by hard work and straight forward dealing, succeeded in clearing up his land, and leaving his family in comfortable circumstances. In the early days it was his custom to leave home during the harvest, going to St. George, where he could earn money to meet his liabilities.

He was a class leader in the Methodist Church for years, and was a Liberal in politics. He d. leaving a record behind him of which his descendants may well be proud.

In 1852, he m. Elizabeth McLelland, who d. in 1900, age 66. Issue: Daniel (d.), Margaret, on the old homestead; William d.), Mrs. W.J. Waind, in the N.W.; Samuel, at home; Emanuel C., unm., the present owner of the old homestead, and Edgar in the North-West.
