SCROGGIE, DAVID

Mr. David Scroggie, for many years a prominent merchant of Guelph, and one of the city's foremost citizens, passed away on September 30, 1915.

The deceased who was 79 years old, was born at Rodon, Quebec. He received his early education in Montreal, and worked for a short time in that city and also at Joliet.

After servering his connection with these firms he went into business for hinself, taking his two sons, Daniel and William, as his partners. For many years this firm carried on a lucrative grocery business on Lower Wyndham Street, afterwards moving to Upper Wyndham Street, where he carried on a successful business until he received the appointment of City Treasurer, which position he held for twelve years.

Six years before his death he resigned, and had been living in retirement. He was also for several years a member of the City Council, in which capacity he gave the city good service.
