TEETER, MICHAEL

Michael Teeter with his wife and family, came to Canada from the State of New Jersey, some time after 1782, and set. near Grimsby. Their children were Solomon, Moses, Aaron, Isaac; Abraham and Conrad d. in the War of 1812, and Ann. Of these, Aaron was b. Sussex Co, New Jersey, in 1782, and d. in Erin Tp. in 1866. He came to Canada with his parents, and set. near Grimsby. He m. Walty Chevalier, of Cox-Sockie, Green Co., New York, who was b. 1784, and d. 1856, age 71. In 1822 he came to Erin Tp., and set on 200 acres, lot 7, con. 11, where he erected a shanty and started to clear and make a home for himself and family. He was a large, heavy, but active man, and a hard worker. He had the first frame barn in the section, which was raised by one Suttle. He was a Methodist, and a Reformer, and was School Trustee of Caledon and Erin at different times.

William, b. 1826, on lot 7, con. 11, Erin Tp., where he d. in 1885, age 59. He received the south half of the homestead, which he farmed until his death. He was a Tp. Councillor for some years, and as Deputy Reeve served in the County council for a number of years. He was Trustee of S. S. No. 1 for a time; a Methodist and a Reformer, taking an active interest in affairs of the party, but not desiring office. He m. Jane, dau. of Patick McEnery, Erin, who d. 1894, age 65. Issue: Mrs. Duncan Sinclair, Binkam; Mrs. John Sinclair, Erin; Price, Artemesia Tp.; Mrs. Alexander Teeter (d.), Erin; Albert (d. Infancy), Mrs. Edward Watts, Owen Sound, and Lewis.

Lewis was b. and has always lived on the homestead, to which he succeeded at his father's death. He carries on mixed farming, keeping good grade stock. He has not held municipal office, but takes an active interest in affairs generally. He has been Director of Erin Agr Society for a number of years, and its President for 1905. He is a Methodist and a Reformer, and has been a member of the local Reform Committee at different times. He m. first Elizabeth Morris, of Caledon Tp., who d. 1898. His second wife was Margaret Ramsay, of Caledon. Issue: James, Morris and Ramsay.
