TOWNSEND, WILLIAMWilliam Townsend was born Derbyshire, England, 1849, was a son of Ralph Townsend and Isabella Harrison, whose uncle was one of the earliest settlers, and built the third house erected in Guelph Tp., and was a hard-working pioneer. William, the subject of this sketch, succeeded with his brother Ralph, to the homestead of 200 acres, lots 6 and 7, con. 6, which at present they own jointly. Ralph, lives on the third concession, Erin; John another brother, owns and resides on the west half, lot 10, con. 7, West Garafraxa. William and Ralph, m. sisters, Jessie and Alice Kennedy. William, on the homestead, is a large grain and stock farmer. He is a man of quiet disposition, very industrious and honest, and is much respected. He is a Steward of the Methodist church, and a Liberal in politics. In 1891, he m. Jessie Kennedy. Issue: William J., Ralph, Alice, Eric, and Elvin. Benjamin Harrison, uncle of Ralph Townsend, the pioneer, was selected Chairman of the Semi-Centenary Celebration Committee of Guelph. He d. shortly before the Jubilee occurred.
