WATERS, JOHN

John Waters was b. in Garafraxa Tp., in 1850, and was raised in Arthur Tp., where he lived with his father until he was 21 years of age. He then went to Burlington, and worked for farmers for 8 years. Then being attracted by the cheap lands in Luther, he took up the present homestead, 200 acres, lot 9, con. 9, in 1873.

The country was then in a rough state. Mr. Waters in a self-made man, and has been very successful, acquiring all of his property by his own efforts. The log shanty, 12 x 18, on the place at the time of purchase has been replaced by a modern brick house, and a bank barn. This bank barn was the second in the township. His property is assessed for $7,000, and all has been

made since going to Luther, which speaks volumes for his management and also for the township. Mr. Waters has always taken an active part in the affairs of the community, being Trustee of his school and Steward in the Methodist church of Damascus, and a Liberal in politics. In 1877, he m. Catherine Trewartha. Issue: Mrs. Alexander Cook, Luther, and Elgyn, at home.
