Jacob Wright b. in Penn., U.S., 1826, d. 1903. He came to Canada in 1829, and was raised by Jeremiah Hunt, of Carlisle. He worked among farmers until he was 21, and then took up a bush farm near Mountsburg. He started out with his axe and chopped cordwood in winter until he had enough money to buy a yoke of oxen. He cleared his farm and lived upon it until 1873, when he sold out and bought 100 acres, lot 25, rear con. 10 Puslinch Tp., where he lived until his death. He was a very successful farmer and a self-educated man, only going to school six months.

The late Mr. Wright was active in the Methodist church, in which he was a class leader and Steward until within a few years of his death. In politics he was a Conservative, being Vice-President of S. Wellington Conservative Association. He m. Margaret Ross, of Co Monaghan, Ire., 49 years previous to his death. Issue: Mrs. E. Calvert, Nassa Tp.; Mrs. Dr. Kearns, Carsonville Mich., dentist; Mrs. (Rev.) D. Kearns, Maple Creek, Sask.; Joseph and Mrs. Jas. Wingrove, Nassa.

Joseph succeeded to the homestead in 1892 and has since worked it. He carries on mixed farming and makes a specialty of fruit growing, and raising beef cattle for the British market. Mr. Wright is a strong Conservative, and has taken an active part in the S. Wellington Conservative Association. He is a member of the Official Board of the Methodist church, Nassa circuit. He has never held municipal office. He has a local reputation as a singer. Mr. Wright first m. Charlotte Wingrove, d. and later m. Mary, dau. of Samuel Ramsey, Eden Mills. They have a daughter Stella May.
