I am descended from Robert Doyne (son of William Doyne and the unknown Wharton) of Charles Co., MD. It would seem that our Wharton ancestor must have been a sibling of Jesse Wharton. It also seems that the Stones, Graves, and Whartons all come from the same areas of Yorkshire and Lancashire in England. If you have any further information on the Doyne ancestry in Ireland or the actual first name and parentage of our Wharton ancestor, I would greatly appreciate sharing it. I believe our Wharton ancestor is descended from HENRY WHARTON since Jesse's name was also Henry JESSE Wharton.
From the excellent Wharton gedcome (w.westnet.com/~holt/Wharton), the name Wharton traced back to Gilbert de Querton in the 13th century. Of this line George Wharton b. 1595, son of Humphrey Wharton and Agnes Cleborne; emigrated to Assawoman Creek, Va. with his nephew Thomas in 1639. He had a son Samuel.
