NINTH GENERATION

NINTH GENERATION

352. John STOGNER(7) died between 1808 and 1812 in Liberty Co,GA. He was born prior 1766. John Stogner who is in Liberty County, Georgia, by 1801, is the first proven ancestor of this particular Stogner family. He is there along with future Marion County, Mississippi, pioneers such as John Pigott, John Warren, Samuel Edward Ball, Nathan Smart and James Perkins.

John Stogner has one known son and quite possibly the only one with him in Georgia, named Ezell. Following is a chronological presentation of John Stogner and his son Ezell.

1801. The tax list for Liberty County shows John Stogner with 200 acres, 1 poll 21 years upward, and no slaves.

1803. On January 15 John Stogner sold 100 acres on the waters of Little Canouchee to John Sargent. The sale was recorded October 29,1817, in Liberty County.

1805. In the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery, John Stogner qualified for two draws. He drew a prize and a blank in Clarke County, Georgia. To qualify for two draws, one must be a free white male, married, with wife and-or child (legitimate under 21 years of age), a one year residence in Georgia, and a United States citizen.

1806. The Clarke County, Georgia, Tax Digest shows John and Ezell with John holding 200 acres on Greenbrier.

1807. John and Ezell Stogner are in Capt. John Silman's District, Clarke County, Georgia.

1808. John Stogner but not Ezell is listed in Capt. John Silman's District, Clarke County, Georgia.

1809. Neither John Stogner or Ezell Stogner are listed in Clarke or Liberty counties.

1810. Again, John and Ezell Stogner are not listed in either Clarke or Liberty counties.

1812. Only Ezell Stogner is listed and he is in Liberty County on the Tax Digest with one poll. Presumably John Stogner is dead.

Where the Stogners were between 1808-1812 is not known but whatever and wherever they have been, Ezell returns to Liberty County and in 1813 is summoned to Jury Duty on January 25 and will be again on January 24, 1816. Children were:
