- "He was one of the original patentees named in the patent granted to the
Town of Greenwich by the General Assembly, May, 1665. Commissioned Officer in
the militia during the Colonial Period; April Session, 1690, was commissioned
Ensign of the train band in the Town of Greenwich. He married - wife's identity
unknown, but it was not Mary Merritt." Children were:

White's Company of Stanwich, 9th Regiment; the company marched to the relief
of Fort William Henry in August, 1757; he also served as a Sergeant in Captain
George Peck's Company of Greenwich during the Rev. War. [It has been questioned
that this Samuel was the Samuel who served in Captain Peck's company during the
Rev. War, because of his age -- this is a valid point, considering that [his
son] Samuel Ferris is also listed as serving as a Sergeant in Captain Peck's
Company, but... will leave here for now, pending further research.]"
