SEVENTH GENERATION

78. Britton CHAPPELL (42) died in 1848 in Montgomery Co,NC. He was born in North Carolina. "Britton Chapell, son of Christopher, was born in North Carolina, and there married Mary Crouch. Both died in Montgomery County in 1848, the wife surviving her husband but two days. They are said to have been an unusually affectionate couple, and the death-bed scene of the husband, as it has been depicted to me by one who was present, was pathetic in the extreme. They were lying in adjoining rooms, where the angel of death hovered over them, each conscious that they had but a few hours to live. At last, when the end came, as it did to the husband first, the loving wife arose from her bed by a superhuman effort and cast herself by the side of her husband, when he passed away in her arms."
