140. Amos TURNAGE was born on 22 May 1794 in Pitt Co,NC. He died on 10 Oct 1863 in Lafayette Co,MS. He was married to Elizabeth ASKEW about 1818 in North Carolina.

141. Elizabeth ASKEW (62) was born on 3 May 1801 in Bertie Co,NC. She died on 19 May 1886 in Lafayette Co,MS. Per Askew (1988):
"Elizabeth "Betsey" Askew b c1799 m Amos Turnage b c1792 NC. He was a famer and son of Emanuel Turnage (Pitt Co. NC Deed Book T-205). Amos and Elizabeth sell her share of her father's estate - 79 1/2 acres - 30 July 1825 for $275 to her brother, Benjamin (Deed Book DD-69 Pitt County)." Children were:

child70 i. Thomas Travis TURNAGE.
child ii. Addie M. TURNAGE(40) was born on 8 Dec 1824 in North Carolina. She died on 15 Dec 1902 in Mississippi. She was buried in Clear Creek Baptist Church,Burgess,Lafayette,MS. (14) Listed on tombstone as "Addie M. Turnage, dau of Amos and Elizabeth" My notes state "Possibly the same as Amanda Turnage who married circa March 1852 (Marshall County, MS) to Isaac R. Marr" -- unsure of source of this.
child iii. Daniel (or David) E. TURNAGE(40) (62) was born in 1826 in North Carolina. He died in 1871 in Fayette Co,TN. Mrs. Harrison gives the name of Daniel E. Turnage and states that he was born in 1826 in North Carolina. The book "Josiah Askew of Edgecombe County, NC", p. 44, states that his name was David E. Turnage and that he was born c1826 in NC and d 1871 in Fayette Co, TN, m 25 Nov 1851 Fayette Co, TN to Mary Jane Askew.

From "Josiah Askew of Edgecombe County, NC", p. 73:
David was a witness to a deed in Marshall County, MS (Deed Book L, pg 472) 4 Apr 1844 along with Thomas Turnage. Grantee was Amos Turnage of Marshall County. David listed in Fayette's Civil District of the Military Reserve Corps of TN in the age group 18-45 "Volunteers who have been or are now in Service". This list was made in 1861. David died the latter part of 1871; Minute Book L page 210 on 5 Dec 1871 shows Marion Zellner a Presbyterian minister and Peter Bondurant appointed to set out a year's support for Mary Jane and her family. Minute Book L page 225, 6 Dec 1871 shows Mary Jane renounced her right to administer David's estate. Thomas T. Turnage was appointed administrator and entered into $12,000 bond. Minute Book L page 597, 2 Sep 1872 - because of Thomas T. Turnage's death on 17 Aug 1872, Charles Lynn was appointed Administrator of David's estate to replace Thomas T. Turnage. Minute Book M pages 73 and 74, 6 Nov 1872 gives the year's support items for Mary Jane. It is interesting to note some of the items: $50 worth of flour, 40 barrels corn, 1500# port, $45 sugar, $30 molasses, $50 coffee, $5 salt, $6 coal oil, $10 soap, $10 spices, $300 for clothing. $506 total to be paid to widow out of cotton crop for last year.

(14) Tombstone lists her as "Henrietta Turnage, dau of Amos, 1869" She was buried in Clear Creek Baptist Church,Burgess,Lafayette,MS. Unsure of source, but my files show "Christeanna Henrietta Elizabeth Turnage born ca 1820 (NC) and died 1869, married 5 Mar 1840 (Marshall Co, MS) to Isaac R. Marr"
child v. W. Adaline TURNAGE(40) was born in 1833 in Tennessee.
