In the will of Marshall Keith of Columbia County, Georgia, (dated 18 May 1839) "my servant Ishmael" was to be freed and was also left 9 slaves and 150 shares in a bank in trust. His mother Nancy and two sisters(?) Minney and Elizabeth were also freed and the girls left "the same". This is the only* record of emancipation I have encountered in 5+ years of research. Keith freed several other slaves. He also directed that three of his slaves be offered the chance to emigrate to Liberia and left sums to cover their expenses. His will was recorded in Talladega County because his relative Joseph Jones alias Keith had property belonging to his estate there.
