West Finley Native
Mrs. Miriam Sprowls Hanks, 64, a native of West Finley, died in West Field, New York, Tuesday May 2, 1972, at 7 AM after a lengthy illness.
She was born January 6, 1908 in West Finley Township, a daughter of the late Norton and Margaret McDade Sprowls. She attended the township schools and was graduated from Claysville High School in the Class of 1925.
A former school teacher, she taught at Ginger Hill School for a number of years, later moving to Westfield, New York, operating a grocery store and meat market until her retirement in 1965.
She was united in marriage with Leon Hanks who preceded her in death in 1944.
Surviving is a sister, Ruth, wife of Roy Mounts, Washington, Pa., RD5, and a nephew, Roy Mounts Jr., Washington RD5. Also two grandnephews and a grandniece.
A sister Noami Wood and a brother, Kenneth, preceded her in death.
Friends will be received at the Ferrell Funeral Home, Claysville, Pa., today, Thursday, May 4, 1972 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM where services will be held Friday, May 5, 1972, at 1 PM. Interment will follow in the West Finley Cemetery.
