My great great grand father came from Canada. I would like to share a little information that I have found, in hopes that someone might see something linked to their family.
My great great grand father was Noah Mitchell, b. 1815 in Canada. His first marriage was to a Haines girl about 1844 or 1845. They had two children, Phoebe Ann, b. 1846 in Canada and Marshall, b. 1848 in Canada. I find Phoebe Ann living with George & Diana Hanes in 1851 census in North Gwillimbury, York, Ontario. In an 1861 census I find Phoebe Ann and Marshall living with a Morton family in North Gwillimbury; and in the same census I find Noah Mitchell married to Betsy York, b. 1828 in Canada and a daughter Mary E., b. 1856 USA.
I lose Noah and Betsy for a while. In 1864 I find where Phoebe Ann marries Thomas T. Mills b. 1838 in Scotland and lives in Queensville, York, Ontario for about 17 years. In the 1870 Census for Michigan, Muskegon, Ravenna township, I find Noah, Betsy, Mary, and a son, David George H. (2 yrs old). In the same census I find a David Wilder & Phoebe Ann Haine Wilder, born in Canada. There is Elisha Bennett & Philinda Mitchell, Bennitt b. Canada. A William Wilder and Josiah Mitchell b. in Canada. Also there is David Wilder, Jr., b. in Canada. As far as I can tell these families were from North Gwillimbury York, Ontario.
They came to Michigan in 1866 and settled on section 23 in Muskegon County. In the 1870 census there was Charles F. Mitchell b. in Canada and Sarah Ann Sweet b. in Canada and a son, Nathanial, b. in Canada. All of these families worked in the logging industry in Canada and Michigan.
Noah, Betsy & David moved to Texas in 1877. Mary E. married John P. Easterly in 1876 and followed Noah to Texas. Marshall married Sarah Ann Sweet and they had two boys and a girl: Eben b. 1877 MI., Lewis b. 1879 MI, Matilda b. 1868. They were living in Muskegon 1880 and they lived there until 1894, and I loose their trail there. Noah and Betsy lived in Texas until their death in October, 1895. I found a will for George Haines. He left $75 dollars to his grand daughter, Phoebe Ann Mills, who he raised. Phoebe & Thomas moved to Texas in about 1881 and left for Oregon in 1888 where they lived until their deaths in 1923 & 1926.
